That's fairly good news then - at least it should have some operational value.

It must be full operational, approximately for 11 years. After Express AM4 failure last year, Yamal 402 is one of the most waited satellites for russian customers.
In-orbit testing will be in working position 55°E, as it was with Yamal 300K few days ago (successfully tested in working position 90°E).

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

They still have to deploy the panels and check all onboard circuits before switching on the beacons, but it looks like there's a new satellite to be tuned in on the satellite receiver.

NORAD has updated TLE for Yamal 402 today: http://www.n2yo.com/?s=39022
The satellite is in 52.5°E position now, moving slow to the East to 55°E position. Thanks Thales Alenia Space for rescue operation :)

Nice - not a complete failure then. Let's see what we can get from it in the UK.

According to a Russian forum, there are tests already underway on the upper frequency band.

That was tests of DirecTV sat in 56°E position. The testing of Yamal-402 isn't started yet.

Official info about Yamal 402 satellite (_www.gascom.ru/en/new_projects/yamal_402/background/index.php):

Yamal-402 is large-sized satellite.
The payload power of this satellite
is more than 10 kW.
Satellite is planned to launch in 2012.
Its lifetime is 15 years.

Yamal-402 satellite will be launched to the orbital position 55°E.

Twelve and sixteen standard Ku-band 72 MHz and 54 MHz transponders respectively and eighteen “planned” Ku-band 36 MHz transponders are installed on the satellite. So, the total Yamal-402 capacity will be 46 transponders or 66 equivalent 36 MHz transponders.

Satellite antennas form 4 fixed beams: Russian, Northern, European, Southern, and one steerable beam.

«Planned» bandwidth (eighteen 36 MHz transponders) will be operated in Russian beam, which exactly contours the Russian borders. Additionally four 54 MHz transponders with standard bandwidth will be operated in Russian beam.

From nine to twelve 72 MHz transponders will be operated in more wide Northern beam which covers the visible part of Russia, CIS countries, almost all Europe and part of Middle East.

Four 54 MHz transponders will be operated in European beam, which covers East and Central Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa.

Eight 54 MHz transponders will be operated in wide Southern beam, which covers the territory of Africa to the south of Sahara.

Up to three 72 MHz transponders may be operated in the beam formed by antenna, which can be steered through the commands from the earth while the satellite is in service.

There is a possibility of interbeam connection of Southern beam with Russian and European, and Northern beam with steerable beam.
Footprints of all beams are on the official website (_www.gascom.ru/en/new_projects/yamal_402/coverage_zones/index.php) and in attaches.

Preliminary (removed from Gascom website) frequency plan is on attached picture (taken from Ukrainian forum).

Thanks for the frequency plan!

Since a few days, Yamal 402 seems standing still on 53.75° East.
Hard to imagine that is a testing position, with both the 53.0° and 54.9° positions so nearby?

There seems to be mistake on tracking info. It was planned that Yamal-402 will be tested in destination position 55°E.

All this week I do monitoring of 55E and 51E positions in different hours: 51E from morning to evening (when Eutelsat tests new bird), and 55E from evening to morning. There were only tests of DirectTV satellite in 56E position, my spectrums published on Ukrainian forum _www.sat-digest.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37738&start=180. There still wasn't any signs of Yamal 402 presence in 55E position. On the other hand, when I scan 55E, I have small peaks from 57E, 56E and 53E sats on the spectrum, so if Yamal-402 will be active in 53.75E position, I will be able to catch its test carriers too (see attached spectrum).

According last TLE, Yamal 402 must have arrived at 55 East yesterday morning.

Right now strong carrier testing on 10885V. That's nice, the center frequency of a Russian beam transponder!

I can confirm, today we had first test carriers from Yamal-402 (55°E) satellite. There were mostly tests of 10885V and 12620V (tps #12 and #9), but for short time carriers on 12620H (tp #9a), 12560V, 11075V, 12560H were active too.

Today they tested again TPs #12 and #9 (10885V and 12620V).
But at midnight by Moscow time (an hour ago) lower frequency transponders of Astra 1F (55°E) were switched off, and 20 minutes ago new tests began.
Right now the carrier on 11511H is active, also sometimes carriers on 11261H and 11261V appears and disappears.

The 11511H peak looks huge! Also saw 10885V again today. No luck yet with the 12500's.

But I wonder, how can 55 East go together with 53 East on the common frequency ranges.
Or are > 1 m dishes already common for 53 East reception in Russia?
