Upgrading boot loader with ADPU commands

Guys, I'm not really into destroying my DM800 but is ther a safe way for upgrading the bootloader using ADPU commands. Has anyone done this successfully. I originally bought the DM800 at a good price not knowing the difference between a clone and the real thing but the more I read the more I appreciate what B16MCC says about making sure you buy the real thing rather than a clone. It is constant hassle trying to find an image you can put on a clone. But most importantly I am a bit fed up with the different versions of Dreambox. Thankfully the DM8000 is a decent machine. However the DM800 is turning out to be a major disappointment. You can't record anything and watch another channel unless its on the same transponder. While its a small, neat machine its no where near as good as the Sky+(HD) machines. Now I do love a challenge but Dream need to seriously come up with solutions that do compare to Sky. Ans with many avenues being closed down these days the Dreambox, while a versatile box, has a limited future
 
You are correct to point out to be sure of what you are buying Ie clone or genuine Dreambox. But you seem to have purchased your 800 without researching its capabilities. The fact that it has one tuner should have alerted you that the you cant watch and record unless its on the same transponder, its a standard on all pvrs with only one tuner. Even the genuine Dream Multimedia receivers, so whether a clone or not you would still have had the same result.
Bootloader updating is a 30 second task.

Your comparison of an 800 to a Sky HD box and your conclusion that its nowhere near as good suggests to me that you have just got frustrated because you cannot get the 800 to perform to its abilities. Even if the C/S avenue is closed down I will still use my Sky card in my 800. No sitting waiting ages after pushing the red button like the digi-box, just zap direct to the active channels. A media player, video/photos mp3s catered for and internet radio. Streaming to anywhere in my home. Its like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Roller Skate

The Sky box was built to do one thing, to provide Sky Tv in a user friendly way to Mr Average Consumer, not enthusiasts, and it does this very well though some may argue that it does not.

If you want a hand to get your 800 running well get in touch. I could set it up for you remotely via pc.

Cant do that with a Sky HD box:):)

I have to disagree there, I'm afraid. I have 2 DM800's and a Dm500 now and I am an IT guy with years of Unix/Linux experience, however, the current Sly HD box pi**es all over the DM800's for all day to days tasks. The Sly box, my 2 at least, zap infinatley faster than any of my DM's,and I've tried every image out there. The small things are what matter, for instance, the inability to browse to whats on in, say 5 hours time, on another channel, without have to go into the Bouquets or MultiEpg and ruin what you're watching. With Sly HD boxes you can do this easily.
The Video/Play back feature of Sly, the way they stack episodes etc is far superiour than the DM's. Series links - non existant on 800's. Then there's the remote record via Ipod etc, granted you can conntect to a front end web control page for the DM but I can remote record 10 programs on Sly's remote record before you do one on the DM!

To be honest, the fact that I can stream from my DM to any room or the internet is a very small edge they have over Sky. Even that is ropey at best. I do like the Opensource nature of the DM's but even still it's a fairly limited box, hardware wise.
I use my DM's for C/S but if, and possible when, that gets stopped, they'll all be on Ebay and back to Sly I'll go.
 
I have already said that the Sky Box does what its built for very well, but to come to the conclusion that the Dreambox has a limited future because it does not operate as slickly as a Sky box on Sky channels is compete tosh. I can see whats on next week without ruining my viewing, and not just sky channels.

Guys, my real frustration has been more directed at the clone side of things. Now I know this is my own fault as I should have guessed that if its cheaper then there must be a reason. I also agree that the open source side of the DM is great. However it would be great if the images could emulate SKys EPG more closely. As mentioned above the series link and channel record functions of the SKy+ box are neat. I find it a bit strange that Dream could not have incorporated a second tuner in the DM800 to allow this record facility. Its hard to convince the family to use the dreambox instead of the Sky box at the moment.

The other point, and indeed the title of this thread. Has anyone tried to use ADPU commands to change bootloader version on a clone BL69 DM800 machine. Is it possible or is it unadvisable

Perhaps people would be more willing to discuss things with you if you explained firstly why you would want to change the bootloader and what benefit would be gained from doing so and also what your acronym ADPU stands for.

As regards series linking on a multisat stb, I do not think you have thought this through properly, it would have to be some incredible program to successfuly move the dish to the correct satellite to begin recording the series already set up. What about if the program you are currently watching is not on the same satellite, I think you might get a bit miffed don't you. In other words it obviously is not practical is it!
 
Yep, I take your point about the multisat series link. Tha ADPU issue. If you look at the thread below

you will see that certain SIMS can be upgraded by sending codes to them using a programming device such as the Phoenix. Was just wondering if anybody had done it
 
Sorry that link does not get me to anything to read only a login screen, so I still do not know what you mean when you say ADPU issue, neither have you mentioned the benefits of this course of action as the bootloader is just that........it is the means by which a flash firmware file is imported, unzipped and flashed to the EEprom. What will this achieve in the long run?
 
You need to register on the forum to read the post. The benefit is you can avail of the most recent images on offer. Also if you take for example my case I cannot load Nabilo 0.12. Now I can load a patches 0.11 Nabilo. But the patched Nabilo 0.11 kernel does not support Smargo interface. I went and bought the Smargo then spent a week researching until I found out why it wasn't recognized. These are the types of problems you hit with a clone

Before you do anything have you checked to see if your box definately has the old sim card or the new type.? If it is the new 2.01 from what I have read on that forum you can go ahead and load the patched images with the newer bootloaders

So, eh, just so I'm clear. A hugh Black listing taking up the whole center of your screen doesn't interupt your viewing!! If that's the case, then there really is no way I'm gonna get my point across!! Happy viewing!
 
Yes you are correct it doesn't bother me in the slightest because if i am readiing the guide I am not watching the happenings on screen and I assume that would be the same for anyone.
 
Guys, I miss the point. I have anything but a black screen with current EMU. However would like to keep current and allow the possibility of Smargo. Do not believe on sitting on what I know but making sure that I know what is happening. That is why the DM800 clone is such as ass kick. Constant image issues, constant device issues. Question remains, has anyone updated a SIM 1.0 card to bootloader 72
