Upper band Ka reception

Did some comparison tests of the SL3 and the Norsat @19.2E ..
Currently a lockable transponder at 18543 V
The Norsat finds the transponder during a blind scan ..as does the SL3..
Norsat showing 10db ...the SL3 = 8db ..
So both find the transponder on blindscan..
Both analyse and produce data ..but the Norsat is a little slower to Identify (Progam 1) in the stream even though it has a 2db advantage..
Now ..both display Decoder crash on the data screen...both locked..
Activating VLC ..both produce a black screen ..BUT waiting long enough the SL3 signal will clear to give a testcard .
The signal from the Norsat NEVER does..??
make of this what you will..
Both lnbs are offset from the focus ..by between 3 and 5 degrees ...
The SL3 being the greater offset..
Somehow the SL3 copes better even with a lower signal level..
Why I have no Idea ..unless there IS a circular component to these SiS newsfeeds.
Another thing to consider is that the SL3 uses the SUP-2400 band shifter in Ka Lo ..
Maybe this is relevant ?

Thanks VS, I'll check it out tomorrow. May not be lucky on that TP. Swapped the Ka for the Ku LNB on the Gibby, so the Norsat is back on the TD88.

Problem - the AD3000 positioner for that dish went haywire and bashed the TD88 into the fence and upset the dish positions. Had to realign, OK now, will try on the morrow.
 
TD88+Norsat Ka LNB OK on that frequency VS. 10dB. As with you, nothing showing on any reader, no PIDS, no test card. Would have thought the PLL in the Norsat would have given a stable enough lock to resolve the video, waited for some time, but no go.

The Norsat doesn't use PLL Llew ..it's a dro...as is the SL3.
 
Oops, sorry, you're right. Still, would have thought I could get some PIDS up in TS Reader, just zeros.

Yes, they've been coming in quite strong today. Wanted to check Azam over at 7E, but my positioner is playing up again. It won't store the last position at 16E, so when I try to go to 7E, the Motek goes to the previous stored position - 28E!
Memory problem I think. Cleared a load of rubbish channels with Setedit, will try again tomorrow. Either that or use my other AD3000 after a factory reset and upload the faulty AD3000 bin file to that.

fwiw Azam is currently quite strong here and has been lockable most of the day around 9db+
 
A late addition ...Digital 1 (V4) was coming in strong here at approx 1:30 AM last night ..so took a quick snap ..
Surprisingly ...still as strong this morning ..
Periods of solid lock and occasional pauses ..
Still another one logged..

I do try CJ ...but often my brain just wont shut down ...that plus the sciatica which is keeping me awake ..
Believe it or not ..it gives me more grief when lying down..

Yes, good lock on the littl'un. Video drops out occasionally though.

Yes, think we're pretty much up to speed on the usual suspects now. Feeds come and go - just waiting for some other broadcasters to uplink on Ka now...

Carrier's still up, but no PIDS showing in TS Reader as I speak.
