Upper band Ka reception

Yes, I meant Vertical on that SiS feed, sorry.

When I stretch the scan out on the Promax, it does show two distinct carriers as in the screenshots earlier. Maybe it is just one with a sharp drop in the centre?

I may be wrong, but I can't really see what difference the circular LNB makes, as I get a perfectly formed, strong waveshape on that frequency; if there's a -3dB loss it doesn't show in the signal strength I'm getting.
SR still 3330 Llew...
This really is an oddity..
??

Suffering real bad with sciatica atm ..but hopefully when it eventually eases ..I'll get the ladder up to 'Harry' and retrieve the linear 9000 ...and swap it over with the SL3 ..just to see if I can shed any light on this..
Dont hold your breath tho' ..I'm in real pain currently.

Tried different tuners -
TBS5925
TBS6925
Skystar XPress HD
F15
Promax

Nothing convinces them to lock it.

Time to do a Cheltenham Yankee now, see if I have more luck with that :-rofl2

Sorry to hear that VS, hope it eases up for you.

Good luck with that m8 ..
Best I did was 50p on one of Pipes the other day ..
33/1 so paid well enough for 50p
Kicking myself though ..
Tim Easterby had one that paid 55 to 1 on the tote yesterday (had it marked off) ..and was hurting to much to get to the bookies..

There's another carrier on 18543V VS. As before, no luck here.

Not at home atm Llew ..so that carrier may be the data transponder using QPSK but ony one of the nodes used ..
I'll check later ..
btw ..
Pipe just had another ..
only 3:1 but a winner nonetheless ..and in the previous race ..T Easterby had a 33:1 4th ..
I do like these 2 trainers..

Trying for Nicholls outsiders today, no luck so far.

And another for Pipe ..
Not that I had a bet today..
12:1
;)

Well that one's certainly improved since its last run.

Yes David P's a master at getting his nags fit.

Back to the job in hand. I've swapped dishes. The Norsat is now on the Triax 88, and gives the same dB levels as on the Gibby.
Convinces me that the LNB (and the XMW) are better matched on the Triax than on the 1,2 Gibby.

Still no luck though on that pesky feed.

Yep ..still there Llew ..
Identifies as simply Program 1 ..
but is lockable ..
Totally crashes VLC ..but is one I haven't seen before ..
I'll try scanning this into the F15 ..if it hangs around long enough.

Actually VLC is running it this time ..
Here is a snapshot of the video ..
ie testcard
SiS again ..but slightly more stable...

Nope ..vanished before I could scan it into the F15 ..

Looking at the Astra 1L Ka band footprint, seems I shouldn't have any problem. Ocko, Penthouse etc. all OK. Assuming that feed is on 1L.

So ..I've doctored a photo of the SL3s pcb such that it explains how the signals are captured ..and why it is possible to use it as a compromised Linear LNB ..when it was actually designed for circular reception..
Hope you find it informative ..

Thanks for that VS. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I can now see how orienting the assembly allows you to align to the correct polarity :)

I would consider obtaining just such an LNB, but I don't think my dish is big enough to use it on the weaker Ka stuff.

Well Llew tbh I would suggest from my experiences with the SL3 so far ..it's actually on a par with the 9000 ..and has the advantage of H/V switching without having to physically rotate it ..
Certainly it was good on Neil ,,but even better on Carl..

@Llew ..
The 18543H 2nd SiS newsfeed you found yesterday ..
appears to have shifted a little ..
Same testcard appearing at 18539H today ..and this time I got the feed logged into the F15
Same SR

Yes, saw that pop up earlier VS.

8dB and still no lock. on Crazyscan. F15 gives me 6dB, but no sign of a green signal bar. I have to assume my dishes are too small for these feeds.

As you say, 'c'est la vie' :(

@VS -
Seems my Promax was correct in identifying two separate feeds around the carrier at ~18560V. I've finally managed to lock one at 18561V. It's an ACM data feed, so no video content unfortunately. Happy to have finally got a touch on that though. Still can't lock the one adjacent (18556V).
