Hi experts

My usual setup is like this: I got a DSL modem, and that is connected to a wireless router. My dreambox is connected to the router with a set IP, and I got a laptop with a dynamic IP connected to the network by wireless connection, so far so good, I can do everything.

Now disaster has stuck and I don't have internet because the DSL does not work. So I connected the laptop (built in 56k modem) to the phone line, installed the modem dial up software and now I am connected to the internet on my laptop, and also to my normal home network through the wireless. I can acess the Dreambox as before, ftp and all. But the Dreambox cannot connect to the internet.

Does anyone have an idea how I can get the dreambox to connect to the internet through my laptop??

Laptop has Vista home installed.

thanks :)

Back in the old days you could install and configure ICS: Internet Connection Sharing.

I've not done this and don't know if it works with Vista. Hopefully it will :)

Hmm will google for it, never heard about this. Thanks! :)

Don't have Vista to check anymore but it was just a case of right clicking the icon, properties, sharing tab, tick share this connection with other equipment IIRC

ICS It still works with Vista, I've used it.

The steps are similar to what Topper has described. (Im not home, so I cant tell you exactly how to do it). As far as I remember you can do it by bridging the connection too.

One thing to remember is to turn on DHCP on the dreambox so that it gets the a correct IP address, gateway etc,

Micr0s0ft use different IP address ranges than what standard DSL equipment does. Your laptop will be acting as a DHCP server if you use ICS (Also as the Gateway and Name Server), so the IP address you have assigned to your dreambox will not work.

Bridging is slightly different however, For simplicity's sake, I would use ICS. :)
