USB to Null Cable

Does anyone know how to make a usb to rs232 null cable..... I bricked my dm500 today and the nearest computer shop is 30 miles away ?

Just buy a USB to Serial adapter and a null modem cable, but check with fellow dreambox owners that it works.

in my experience the usb to null modem does not work i tried it with my dead box and didnt work and was advised by a fellow member to use the cable directly and it work. if you have the port in your motherboard then connect it directly if you dont then dont think there is any other way unless some one with port does it for you.Hope i helped.

Did you get sorted mate? I had no luck using a usb/rs232 null modem cable on dreamboxes. Worked ok with my Relook/IP boxes but Dream needed a serial port on pc.

Your only a couple of miles from me, if you need a pc to flash it on gimme a shout.

Some makes of USB to Serial adapters do have problems, even when used with some card programmers, so
a PCI serial card might be a better option and they're not too expensive.
It might be best to get one from a local computer shop then if it doesn't work you can return it.

yeah i agree with mikha certain makes of the cable are pretty useless since theyre from china (no trust on anything from there tbh) but on dreamboxes they do not work at all the one i tried with worked on other boxes just not dreamboxes
