Intelsat 29e arrived at final location 50.0°W, so the targeted in-service date (tomorroe) still seems correct.

Intelsat press release: Intelsat Reports Intelsat 29e Service Outage | Intelsat
Luxembourg, 10 April 2019 – Intelsat, S.A. (NYSE:I) announced today a service outage on the Intelsat 29e satellite which continues to affect maritime, aeronautical and wireless operator customers in the Latin America, Caribbean and North Atlantic regions.

Late on 7 April, the Intelsat 29e propulsion system experienced damage that caused a leak of the propellant on board the satellite resulting in a service disruption to customers on the satellite. While working to restore the services, on 9 April, the satellite experienced a second anomaly that caused a loss of communications to the satellite. Communication with the satellite has been intermittent. Intelsat continues to work with the satellite’s manufacturer, Boeing, on recovering communication. The Intelsat customer-facing team is focused on migrating customer services from Intelsat 29e to other Intelsat satellites serving the region, as well as third party services.

Intelsat will not make a determination of financial impact until the conclusion of the recovery mission.

The satellite has drifted away already from 50.0°W, with 0.5°E/day, now near 48.7°W.

IS-29e declared a total loss.

I dont think thats a surprise to anyone here. Shedding debris is almost always extremely bad news for the craft. Shame its an almost new craft though.

Nothing atm. The traffic has been punted over to the nearby birds.

You have to wonder if any of the similar Intelsat craft may have similar issues in the future....

Some of these wayward runaway derelicts on or close to the geo-arc have to be candidates for being towed out of the way at some point - something like the MEV mission thats supposed to be launching soon. Tow them down low enough for a burn up in a sensible length of time.

TED Fellow Moriba Jah wants to tackle the problem and has designed AstriaGraph, an open database which brings together multiple sources of information to monitor space objects.
He is hoping that it can be used to help inform policy making in future.
