Vbox accuracy

My Satellite Setup
1m channel master, jaeger smr1224, Inverto black ultra twin, technomate tm-1500ci, broken receiver vantage x221ci, New additions Skybox F5s and technomate tm-5402 HD arriving soon.

How accurate should a vbox be because my jaeger vbox 2 doesn't seem to be.

When fine tuning sat positions using my vantage receiver linked to the vbox using positioner mode, moving the dish 1 step it moves it 2 sometimes 3 going by the count number on the front.

Is this a fault or are they all like this?
 
I have found some issues with VBoxes in the past. Most common issue is with the reed switch pulse being lost in the chassis connections of the box. The circuitry inside is not shielded and worse still, uses standard cable to the main board inside the box.

Sometimes, realigning of the reedswitch in the back of the motor can improve the pulse, and once, turning the magnetic wheel round fixed things.
 
I think I will buy another vbox as one of the forum sponsors are doing the gbox v500 one for 25.

then I can sort this jaeger one with a different psu to get rid of the high pitch noise and keep for a backup.

why can't receiver makers just offer a paid extra to have a positioner board addon, I'm sure there would be still takers for this.

Gbox works great for me. Double the resolution of the Jaegar.

Are you sure the Jaegar is losing count?

Yes I think it's the issue as a reed switch fault I would get the error 2 all the time wouldn't I ?

I don't think it has ever been right I had only paid 20 euro for it at the same time as getting the 1224 motor
anyway.

how much are professional positioners if such things exist ?
 
Wod, how do you know it's not counting correctly? What are the symtoms?
 
Well it's when I fitted a larger dish I was fine tuning positions a couple of days ago and noticed it hadn't stored position of 26e and a couple of others when I was moving between the satellites. Even though it said it had stored the new position.

had issues before with it giving error 2 faults, with a working fine reed switch in the motor.
 
All my stuff is new but, as you know, I had issues with driving the dish to the stored position. Make sure the mount bearings are all greased up and free moving, just in case it's a problem with that.

You said a counting error.

The Er2 is due to a sticky relay in the V-box. Just open the top and give the relay a bang.

Also, what looks like a counting error is sometimes the motor bracket slipping on the motor shaft where the cotter pin goes through. This really is a weak link with the 1224 motor.
 
Yes I did say a counting error but before when I first got the vbox it did the error 2.

It hasn't done that since but overall I think the vbox has been faulty from the start.
