vbulletin V4

Hello Chris

Can't upload a Signature Pic.

Trying to replace my Seasonal one with my usual one (which has happiyl worked previously), but it won't play!

Thanks

Gordon

It's now uploaded and showing in the preview mode - but adamantly refuse to appear in public view (as you can see - or, rather, not see!)

Edit: Whatever I do - add text or anything, it saves and previews ok but just doesn't show up here!

Seems to be working now, so thankyou very much.

Actually, although I am a fully paid-up member of the Luddite Tendency, I rather like the new Forum "look".

looks nice, just noticed the my system section has appeared on left with our forum info as it wasn't there last night.

I think in a few days time all the major "issues" will be resolved and we will all be used to it. I can assure you in 2 years time when the next update comes everybody will say they want to keep the "old" style :)
One thing I would like to see is a slightly larger font, having some problems with my eyes getting old and weak.

But, it must be said that this forum is really on top of things when it comes to the technical side. If it's dos attacks or sorftware updates or server swaps, we are hardly ever off-line for long and content has not been lost. And all this is mainly down to Chris and the other guys dealing with the technical side of the forum, so big thumbs up for your hard work!

Oh dear.

This morning I am trying to use the Forum, but each time I move between Threads etc a hugely annoying and very slow to load Toolbar keeps appearing at the bottom of the page.

With only a 512k connection, this has effectively neutralised the forum for me. I have found out how to shrink it, but that doesn't help speed wise.

I have scoured the various Options available for a means of turning it OFF, but to no avail.

Is there such an OFF toggle that I've missed?

On my 1.5meg connection I found the toolbar was loading several seconds after the rest of the page loaded, then appeared at the bottom of the page as an annoying blue pop up. I suspect the developers of these tools forget that many of us have slow broadband - they will work fine on their ultra fast bb connections......

I cant find a way to turn it off so Ive adblocked the most annoying images :D

Hi Ross

Yes, I was thinking about Adblock as you wrote ..... the offending entry is cdn.wibiya.com and I'm also going to block it for now.

Have PM'd Chris as well in case he doesn't spot the re-awakened Thread here.

Edit: This is a nightmare: However many elements I block, there are yet more! Think I'll try to restore it how it was and await advice.

This seems to be the main filter:

That takes the blue sprites off the page.

Edits:

the popup still loads slowly, but its much less annoying as unless you are looking for it you dont see it.

I noticed the same problem when the DS forum started filling their pages up with half a dozen javascript adverts - the page loading slowed down dramatically. Adblock sorted that one out as well :D

Just done a timed page refresh - it takes between 2 and 3 seconds for the popup to load here.

I've managed to get rid of it completely .................... Not sure exactly how, but I'm not complaining. Still seems to be slow at loading pages though. I wonder if the Adblocker justs hides from view as opposed to preventing offending items loading? (Firefox 3.5.7 with AdBlock Plus)

Search bar is a PITA for me as well.

In addition, compared to yesterday, on SOME posts the text is after huge blank expanse which just happens to be same as the poster's details in the left hand box.

Tivu's is OK, Analoguesat's is not.

EDIT Curse this new "Manage Attachments" routine

Same here Paul. I've tried IE6, IE8, Google Chrome and Firefox , all give the same issue. Also, scrolling is a pain, it's not smooth, it 'ratchets', or 'steps' is the only way I can describe it. I've tried adjusting the mouse options to no effect.

I've got five elements blocked and it is now tolerable visually and tolerable (but not really acceptable) speed wise. It has also fixed the scrolling issues.

I think the vertical line in front of some of the entries is to indicate blocking even if the element doesn't start with the associated string, but includes it anywhere. I can't remember exactly what I did!

(Horizontal line added to disable live links in the usual way, for Forum purposes)

I'm no expert with Adblock Plus, usually rely on published Filters, not custom element blocking!

Have to admit I seriously dislike the new attachments system. Its really is a major step backwards from the old system. Yes its handy seeing the pics as you add them but the old "line based system" was much quicker and better.

If you are adding more than one at a time it very often adds them in a random order so you have to delete them out of the bottom panel and put them back in the desired order.......

Not tried any Attachments under the new system.

I think perhaps I won't!

Aha!

I've just reviewed the Stats for the five elements I referred to earlier and only one of them shows any hits:

This one

_|http://cdn.wibiya.com/*

So I'm going to disable the other four and see if leaving just that one does the trick ..................

................... It does.

I'll just try to confirm how I specified it to be tagged with that vertical line and report back.

Right-ho.

Success!

Just block the one specific element in my last Post and leave the default options in Adblock Plus as they are

ie "Accept pattern" Tick "At the beginning of the address"

Sorted.

Excellent mate - that string disables the pop up nicely :-rofl2

I just dropped it in as a new filter string :)

Chris has given me the information on how to uninstall the toolbar, he didn't realise how needy it was. So now gone.
