Very First Installation

Hey well done BC - some folks take days to get this far. Ok go back to your Hotbird location. The dish needs to move enough to move the lnb about the width of the lnb face westwards (to the left) as you are looking at the dish.

You cant miss 9E - its an ultra high power satellite, as strong at 13E - (because EB9A is the old Hotbird 7A) :)

A quick tip - when you have found Hotbird again mark the mount positions with tippex, a line of paint or even pencil. Then if you get hopelessly lost you can easily reset to the start point. Saves an awful lot of faffing around if you can easily reset.

Thanks for the encouragement - you guys have been great today. Good idea about the pencil/tipped!!

So, i'm pretty sure i have HB13e up and running right now at 29.8 degrees elevation. Just checked again and Eurobird 9 is a little higher at 30.5 so i'm going to raise the dish a little bit again and move the dish around just a tad. I note your comment about 'not being able to miss it'.... but somehow, i've managed to do that with amazing aplomb up to now!! LOL!!

Ya sod!! Just coz i talk proppa like...... :p

OK - just checked again and it is DEFINITELY HB13e i'm honed in on. SO....... up goes the dish a couple of notches and round it goes to the west by a few degrees...... wish me luck... i i might be quite some time.......... :eek:

Well done BC.

Now mark the dish up just in case it moves in the winter gales.

A couiple of new years ago we wrere involved in the Chasing Midnight fun and as gales lashed the dishes in the garden my 13E reception gradually disappeared - the dish had moved just enough to totally wreck my reception.

What do you watch on 13ºE?
 
During Chasing Midnight on New Years Eve loads of stuff :D

Nothing regular the rest of the year, although it gets scanned every couple of nights to pick up the channel changes for the New Channels section on the forum. :)

I watch the news on Khaber TV occasionally and some of the travel stuff on RTG (Russian Travel Guide is interesting.

I will not be 'going there' for quite sometime!! Believe me!!

Well, i sat down after chasing a ladder all day yesterday to view the fruits of my labour, and i must say that i'm rather pleased with the reception that old sky dish is picking up!! I've noticed that there are a lot of channels on EB9a that are encrypted and others that i can't see either, so i presume that i need to re-scan the bird and just select the channels that are FTA.

Otherwise, i'm going to go through a set of zapper batteries in less than a week!! Once again, many many thanks to everyone who chipped in with their expertise yesterday!!

The thing with doing a FTA search is it only finds channels that aren't flagged as encrypted. If you do a full search it will find more open channels because some channels are open but flagged as encrypted. After you have done the search just run through and delete those you don't want... Or add the one you do want to a favourites list and just go through that when zapping.

Cool. There always seems to be a least two different ways of doing things in the Satellite world!! I take it deleting the channels i don't want will remove them from the scanned list until i scan again.
 
And for my next trick....

Disecq switch and extra lnb zip tied to the 9E lnb so you can get 13E as well :-rofl2

Worked fine for months! (9E lnb on the right)
 
Class, that must be the ultimate adjustable lnb
