I have been given a Thomson "VIA DIGITAL" box and I would like to know what size of dish I would need to use this in Scotland. Also what kind of card I would need. TIA

If this is for Viasat Sirius 5E, then a 1 metre or 1.1 should be fine and a 6 in 1 file on a funcard should work.

OOPS. :) Of course it is, silly me, seems like years ago that it was called that. :)

In which case a Titanium, M2 or Basic card is required.

Rolfw,

I live in the Nottingham area. Is my 1.0 metre dish enough for 5 deg east as I am getting some break up of certain channels however fine I try to focus in ?

A 1.1 would be better, may just make the difference, I have a customer here in the south who picks it up all of the time with a 1.1 Triax. You may also try tinkering with the LNB Skew, may give you that little extra. :)

Thanks rolfw,

I'll try the LNB skew before thinking about the expense of a new dish and setup again.

Cheers

I have a 1 metre dish and from North London am getting 60% and 80%(Qual) from the Echostar 3000. Agree with Rolf, the LNB skew may need a tweak.

Thanks all for your feedback. Rolf, I am a total novice when it comes to cards. Is there any difference in the cards you mention? I see that waferworld does a Titanium for £25. Will that get me all Digital+ or will I need anything else? Lots of questions I know but then I am a silly billy :confused
thanks again :)

As far as I know the Titanium file will work on the original box, but will have a check in a couple of other places to see if I can dig up any problems.

If you wait for every downturn you will end up not getting anything, I'm the opposite. :)

The Titanium card is going to be the type of card that will be required for future encryptions and possibly alongside the new supercams, so it probably won't be a wasted purchase.

I have just arrived back in Scotland with my Via Box(my holiday was unexpectedly extended, poor me). I have looked to order my Titanium card and I am finding difficulty due to lack of availability. Also there appears to be blank cards and programmers. as I am a complete novice at this I would very much appreciate some kind person telling me whether or not I need a programmed card or a blank card and a programmer or what? TIA
