Video Mosaic from EBSpro

Today I finally managed to finish a project, I had dreamed of for years!

This is part of my VMA Video Analyser package (VMA Broadcast), which is a professional software for Video Analysis. It allows waveform, vector scope, CIE diagram and many more analysis functions (hence why I am posting this here).

It always struck me how hard it was to simply be able to render the live channels in a mosaic (video wall) of a transport stream.

I think this is a great tool for professionals in broadcast engineers and TV operators (signal distribution).

And a “lite” version of VMA Mosaïc – even paid – for NON-professionals, is it possible?
I use EBS Pro and I admit that your VMA UDP Splitter makes me dream... too!
 
I plan to release a light version that only works with EBSpro.
This will be free for non-commercial use. This will be a light package with a reduced VMA Mosaic and VMA UDP Splitter to work exclusively with EBSpro. I always wanted to have this and it will be a tribute to EBSpro, Crazyscan's Streamreader and the community in general.

I have been doing some bug fixing and thinking on how to evolve this software for commercial use. Might for example add some built-in webserver to show statics like occupied bandwidth. Not sure how hard that will be, since parsing PAT is more complex than I thought.

Also, the commercial version should allow to select input and output ports.

And in this process, I finally understood why Dektec StreamXpert refuses to connect to EBSpro... I might have a solution for that. Not sure if I will build that into the VMA UDP Splitter or as a separate tool.

When will this be available? Not sure, it depends on my free time...

You need a license to use VMA Video Analyser. And a fast computer. If you need help to get it up and running, let me know.

It looks a little bit like DVBSam from decontis I've been using for years now but it's a quite complex program.

I found in my archive a sample of it's video-wall capabilities.
I used it in 2021 to show the Dutch forum how dynamic PMT works.
The local/regional versions of WDR 3 use it to have the full bandwidth of its transponder available for programs outside of the "locaalzeit" hours.

WDR 3 outside of "locaalzeit" hours: In all PMTs audio/video ES point to the same video/audio pid, full video bandwidth is available:

During "locaalzeit" all PMT video and audio ES point to different pids, the bandwidth is divided over all locals:

You won't believe it, but I struggled with that, too. I was tuning WDR and first I thought the code had an error for repeating the same Video and Audio PID's. Only when suddenly the news were on with the weather report, I noticed my software suddenly was working correct and that the PID's were different. After the news, the PID's changed again to be the same. I think it is a huge waste of resources... All it would take is to show the weather forecast for both regions one after the other and you could save a lot of bandwidth... But, hey, it's the German tax payer who has to pay the bill, not the broadcaster!

Without a license, VMA Mosaic and VMA UDP Splitter can be used in free light mode (non-commercial use only) with EBSpro.

Make sure to configure EBSpro like this:

If you downloaded the installer before, please download again. I just uploaded a new installer. The file name is the same. I uploaded it right now (19h20 CET/GMT+1).

The VMA Mosaic had a bug, which I just fixed. It prevented to use the Light mode with EBSpro.

Yes, but I think the Germans pay less then the British, if I look at all their regional versions of the BBC programs.
And in my small country, each region has their own program on sat, 24/7 with only a few hours of new daily content.

But enough off-topic, congratulations with your work, I also downloaded Video Analyser for testing.

It's a better system than the BBC uses - a separate HD channel for each region spread over several transponders. With dynamic PMT they could ditch two or three transponders and perhaps have a BBC One 4K that splits to HD for regional content. However that ship has sailed and the BBC would rather viewers didn't watch via satellite or terrestrial at all.
