Vinyl Eating Mice

Messing around in the kitchen this morning, I noticed the vinyl floor covering, where it goes under the cooker, appeared torn.

Looking closer, it was clear it had been nibbled!

Well, I immediately thought of mice, as we had them a few years ago.

Checked the low level drawer where they used to frequent and it had lots of droppings plus a stain of wee.

Cleaned it all up and set a trap.

Pulled the cooker out and just about filled a Stork Margarine tub with shredded vinyl and other detritus.

Why the hell would thy chew on that? Sharpening teeth, maybe?

Weird.

Next door have three cats, so they are being idle, obviously.

Maybe like the burnt toast it will prove to be carcenogenic ..??
 
When we had house rabbits, they developed a liking for chewing the insulation from electrical cables.....without a shock apparently...

A large number of plastic/man-made materials use an organic oil in place of the mineral variety, so many animals will find the taste attractive, even though its not actually digestible.
 
It's simple, they don't like it and are redecorating their new home... :-rofl2

I didn't know that.

Little bastard(s) haven't been active while I've been having my afternoon snooze.

But I do like the look of the cheese on that trap.

Chocolate from a muffin, not enough that they can remove in one go, but just smearing a tiny bit on the catch, or inside of the pellet tray.

Not something we keep in the larder, but duly noted.

It's been a few years since I last baited traps and I do recall the most effective substance was summat other than cheese, but cant remember what it was.
 
I have been hearing scratching noises, coming from my loft, but always in the same place.

I have popped my head up there and had a very good look around, and in the spot where I can hear the scratching has a couple of old mirrors over that area, the mirrors have dust over them, and the dust has no footprints in it.

And other people have said they can hear the noise, so I know it's not in my head.

But the odd thing is, it's only in the early hours from about 02:00 to about 05:00.

Not every night, and it's only in the one spot.

The loft has been boarded out, so to investigate any further I will have to lift the boards, just have to move a load of junk first.

So I was thinking about popping to the farmers shop to see if I can get any bait to chuck up there.

I'm not going to deprive our mule of his rations just to catch a mouse! :rolleyes::-lol

News!

1. The mouse/mice love Extra Mature Cheddar
2. He/she/it/they managed to scoff the lot without tripping the trap
3. The trap prefers human fingers (Testing, testing)
4. I recall it was Sultanae I used successfully last time.

More effort required - Will set two traps tonight, one with cheese and one with dried fruit.
