Hi,

Looking at installing a VisioSat (Cahors) SMC 120 satellite dish.

This will be installed in Lenzerheid (near Chur) Switzerland to receive Freesat channels from Astra 2 (28.2). Looking at the footprints, this is even further off the edge than where I live in Zurich (and get a good signal with an SMC 100).

I have read that using a C120 feedhorn and LNB will give the best signal as standard LNBs are not designed for this size of dish.

I also see Visiosat have:

C120 Linear feedhorn, Ref : 0914104

At the same time I will upgrade this persons existing satellite (left behind by the previous owners) with two new twin LNBs (for 13 & 19.2). I could therefore try one of these new LNBs on the SMC 120 and see how good the signal is before committing to feedhorn setup.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You'd be better advised to wait a few months until the delayed Astra 2E Satellite is finally launched (latest info suggests late September) and brought into service as the precise footprint on the fringe is not really known - other than the fact that it will be tight.

Currently most Freesat Channels of interest are on 1N (with a few on 2F and the lesser ones on the older Birds) and 1N was designed for use at 19E(where it will go once 2E is up and running) so it isn't strictly possible to assume that 2E will be available everywhere that 1N currently is.
