hello guys i have a vu duo but im interessted in a VU. what do hyou guys think?

TY

Don't understand your question, which VU are you thing of ? Uno, Duo2, Solo2, Zero, SoloSE or Solo4k ?

There is a new VU+ 4K model due out, sometime soon, but you can find all technical information, for available models, on the VU+ website.
Code:
http://vuplus.com/sub/main.php

I have the VU+ Duo 2, which I can highly recommend, although it is a bit more expensive, than other models.

I have a VU+ Solo SE and the tuner is very good reception wise for normal use, BUT
Not sure if due to VIX image, or general problem with box, Blind Scan only works sometimes on certain satellites, never on others, if fact some of the more senior members doubt if it can blind scan at all!
Miss reports frequencies when you check the info when on channel, ok when on services list. Not too clever on low Symbol Rates. ( Have sent a message via the VU website, but no response)
General appraisal, they are good, but could totally confuse anyone new to the game!

Is your OpenVix up to date? I thought blindscan was supposed be be working correctly (@Huevos has done a lot (if not all of) the work on it).
Have you tried the forum? Not always the most friendly place but the experts there do know their onions.

I think it's up to date, running Hades ? ( not sure, not at home to check at the mo ) Have spoken to Huevos re the problem and he advised it's a VU problem and the blind scan software works fine on other boxes.
Did send a problem report to VU but no response, have not tried to discuss on VIX forum as yet, may give that a go at some point. Have other more important things to sort out first, but when I get a round tuit!

Just got home, Hades 18, no updates available.
( unless the image is corrupted! )

Hades has come to the end, that is why there are no updates. Download 3.2 from OpenViX website. Build 010 or maybe 011.

Vu+ tuner cards are not brilliant for blindscan, especially on weak or low symbol rate transponders. Solo2 has built in tuners and a different binary, and that combo works pretty well.

Have downloaded 3.2 build 010, which of course means I,ve lost all my stored channels on every satellite, time to start scanning them all back again!

Huevos, do think this will improve the blind scan capability or at least make it less " hit and miss " ?

Why aren't you using some of the Dreambox tools, especially dreamboxedit?
It's easy to set up, and use, and allows you to quickly FTP all your channels, from your receiver, onto your PC, then FTP them back again, after any updates.

TBH, I'm only just starting to get really hooked and wasn't aware that the Dreambox tools would work with the Solo SE , in fact the whole Linux based systems are pretty new to me and I'm on a rapid learning curve.
Thanks for the advice, will look out for the software later and have a play with it!

Last time I upgraded the image (think it was Zeus LOL) I lost all my multiswitch settings and had to re-enter them. DB Edit works fine with the VU+.

I totally refuse to use OpenVIX because of a-hole developers/moderators (not all but a good majority) and the fact that they release updates every two days, which tends to break more things than fix - despite what they try to force you to believe.

Go to OpenPLI (which is what OpenVIX is based on) and install what YOU want to use, not what image developers want you to use.

Blind scan is temperamental on most receivers - not one that I've used is perfect, though it's acceptable enough on my Uno and F15. Will be upgrading to Duo2 or Solo2 over the next few months. Hopefully, all the pilgrims will start buying "4K" receivers by then, which will push Solo2/Duo2 prices down.

Brian, all you need to do is a settings back-up and restore and your complete channel list and config will be restored. Updating the image is not going to make any difference to blindscan as the problem is either hardware or binary, not image.

@CJ, I can't agree. OpenPLi was the Enigma2 base from several years ago. They are very different now to the point where merging code is not easy.

OpenPLi is built daily. And if you look at the GiT you will see plenty of reverts meaning lots of code didn't work as expected.

Also OpenViX does not release every 2 days. There is a Release image which is publicly available and well tested and a Developer image which is not publicly available but can be built from source.

Neither are there lots of things loaded by default. If you compare OpenViX with images like BH, VTi, and OpenATV you will see that it is about 2/3rd's the size and similar in size to OpenPLi.

And OpenPLi doesn't even have ABM in it's feeds so no chance of auto updating channel lists direct from DVB tables.

But obviously it is your choice.

Not sure what you are talking about developer/moderators but bad behaviour is not tolerated on that forum from anyone, moderators included. And to be honest support is second to none, and is probably the best supported image with a very helpful forum.

BTW, if you want decent blindscan go for the Solo2. The Duo2 uses the same tuner cards as the rest of the Vu+ range and in my (and Brian's) opinion are not to hot. And on the twin tuner cards blindscan does not work at all on the second tuner (probably due to a fault in the binary).

SORRY TO ALL, DIDN´T WANT " WAR OF THE GODS ", JUST A BOX THAT WORKS!

PS. Let me know which Gods win, may be useful in the future!

Joking aside, ( possibly ) , If I do a back-up and restore, won´t I be back to Hades? As I say, learning curve.

So I guess I need to learn Binary,........ 101100110001100011110001000

Effectively, SOS, I need more help!

When you do backup/restore, you restore settings, such as channels lists, tuner configs etc. rather than image.

Thanks CJ, just a little late, as a newbie I thought it would be image related, so the stick has been wiped, as I say a learning curve for me!
Shame nobody in the ether has thought of an " idiots guide for newbies ", like front page on forum!
But, as life has taught me, if it´s easy, it ain´t worth it!
