vu+solo question about uptadting boot loader

hi i have flashed 3x solo boxes with open pli. unfortunately i did not update the boot loaders on these. one of them crashed and is still dead . as i don't have the boxes i would like to send my dad a usb with the cfe boot update on. my question is will he need to re-flash the image. i have read that they don't recommend using old setting with the update but im hoping i don't need to re flash. i would just say the other two boxes have worked fine with the old software.

I would reflash after updating the drivers this will run the solo much better and its so easy to flash the solo.

ive upgraded the bootloader on mine and not noticed any difference in performance.
