As thread title, no feed required, just the scalar ring & must be Chaparral.
Thanks.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

I'll have a look in the shed, though I think the only one I have is with integral S-Band dipole. There was also an influx of fake Chaparral feeds a few years back, I spotted a couple on my last trip to the UAE.

That seller in Cyprus I mentioned on Monday does have a bolt on feed complete with flange.

Thank you Feedsat - yes that's exactly what i'm after.
I'll wait and see if CH has anything lurking in his shed or if anybody else a bit closer to home has one surplus to requirements but if not i'll get back in touch with you.

Thanks CH, yep saw the feed from Cyprus but isn't exactly what's required.
If you find time to have a rummage in the shed it would be appreciated thanks.

Chaparral C Band Feedhorn [11-6870-62]

No problem Alex - just need the scalar ring only (as in Feedsat's pic) though for my little project build. Have a look when your fit again lol, happy recovery

Hi John,

Apologies for the delay - I've been lazy :)

Here are the pictures of the Chaparral bundle thing. I've never tested it, I've no idea what works or what doesn't on it.

BTW, what's special about this feedhorn vs any other generic one out there?

... long story short Alex - - the design / dimensions of it.
Iv'e got a white paper somewhere from the chap that actually designed it for Chaparral and test data to show how it fairs. Most of the other PF scalar rings out there are just close copies but don't have the pedigree and performance of the Chaparral. I'll dig the paper out and post it on here chap.

Hm, well I have the AV Comm polariser - will a different feedhorn yield any better results? Pretty sure by current one is a generic copy (might be one that came with Zinwell)...

@Captain Jack

From my personal tests I have found that the polo pipe (AV-COMM) with a Titanium LNB yielded better signal levels that the same polo pipe with a Zinwell LNB. A good example was the ESPN transponder with frequency of 3980 L from 40.5W. With the polo pipe and the Zinwell I was under a lock, changing the LNB to the Titanium gave me a constant lock.

The polo pipe as shipped from Australia did not have enough internal diameter to accept the Titanium LNB. The simplest option to get the Titanium to fit is to rub down the lip on the LNB throat with some emery tape. The other option os to machine out the internal diameter of the polo pipe at the LNB end by a fraction of a millimetre or so.

If "scopus" pops along he will be able to provide his feedback on the Titanium vs Zinwell in the polo pipe. He went down a similar route.

The Zinwell ones are better than most of the cheap ones that come with the cheaper variety of lnbf's that get sold. I use a Zinwell one on the 2.2 as well.
** This is a question for you as it's more in your line - - Iv'e got the White paper doc that details the in's and out's of PF scalar rings (Chaparral inc) thats a pdf file, the whole file is worth a read because it contains references to the Chaparral feed in different parts of the file - snag is it's a 1.5 meg pdf file, any idea how i can reduce it so the forum software will accept it ?. Ta.

If it is a clone then the dimensions will be identical, diameter, depth and scalar ring radii, At such a low frequency there should be no difference if both types of feed share the same focal point and bore alignment.

The only change that might occur would be down to the material used, where transparency to the signal might create a different characteristic over the full band.

@John

If the pdf file size exceeds the forum limit of approx 1gb per file upload you could try to split the pdf into two or more files with each file being below the 1gb forum limit?

For Captain Jack and anybody else interested in the content of scalar design, including Chaparral.
Split up into three pdf files. (thanks to Moonbase).
