Wanted. LNB Holder for Prodelin / Echostar 1.2mt offset Dish.


LNB Holder for Prodelin / Echostar 1.2 mt offset dish capable of holding a Universal Lnb.


Looks like / similar to these with 40mm throat.

No I'm not sure at all.
I just put that photo up so people might get some idea of what I was talking about.
This is the one I have which is actually 30mm.

I think it is more than possible to adjust existing holder by grindering down little bit of lower part and upper clamp could be replaced by new one.
I mean something like this:

Yes that would be possible but I would prefer another one in case I decided to switch back again.
So if anyone has one of these let me know.

I doubt there are lots of users around ready to get rid of LNB holder they need for their dish.
Take angle-grinder and make some noise! :rolleyes:
 
It looks a easy job to fabricate one Tony, take it to your local fabricator and explain what your needs are.

Yes that would be possible but I would rather get another holder first so that if I make a mess of it I will have something to fall back on.
 
As far as I recall, the 23/24mm throat was always standard on the US dish designs. The offset feeds (many with mechanical polariser) are a matching size, but tail off with a rectangular waveguide, and therefore unsuitable in the universal age.

However, in modifying a few systems to cope, I've found that by removing the plastic cover that surrounds almost all European LNBs, you find a metal casting that is very close to the diameter required, which the clamp can work with.

I actually found that post yesterday & the lnb bracket in post no 124 is the one I have on my dish.
That piece of 4 x 2 was a very interesting way to mount an Lnb Judging by some of the weather we get here I think I'd need teak.
I actually didn't think it would be this hard to find what I'm looking for but I've had no luck so far despite putting a wanted request on every forum I can find.
 
On my last Prodelin such a holder was installed. I do not know whether it is original or fabricated by somebody to hold 40mm LNB. Made out of aluminum. I just added INOX bolts (I like them :) ).

Hi Channel Hopper.
When I got my dish originally it had a polarizer like you describe.
Then I changed to a Channel Master feed horn & Invacom C120 lnb & it made a huge difference.
That was many years ago.
I still use the same setup now.
Just wanted to try a Black Ultra Universal lnb since I heard so much about them.
I just don't want to butcher my lnb holder without having another one spare in case I mess it up.

On the subject of removing the plastic from the lnb ?
Would that not let water in ?
I have never done it so i don't know what's inside.

Unless you can get a Black Ultra LNB not the LNBF version, you will either have to modify the clamp, or the LNB itself.

The plastic is usually a two piece shroud which has platic tags to hold it together, very much like a modern remote control. Try experimenting with another duff LNB first in taking it off. The feed cap in all the ones I have taken to pieces is separate from the cover and so the integrity of the electronics is not compromised.

I think RimanTSS has taken the cover off a BUS/D/Q a couple of times.
Check his "SAT playground" thread; there a picture of one stuffed into a Fibo Gregorian feedhorn, IIRC.
Letting water in? Well, yes, but this would be for experimentation, no?
If it turns out to work, I'm sure you can improvise anything from plastic water bottles to clear freezer plastic bag around the whole thing... 8-)
 
st1! You are right, I stripped IBU some time ago and to lazy to put cover back. Aluminum body is sealed well, lets see whether it has problems over time.

Morning Alex, i would use my dremel for making that. but i do use an angle grinder and I've got a big heavy duty chop saw for the heavy stuff the one on the right.
