Early warnings of severe or extreme weather issued by The Met Office.

Severe gales will continue to affect parts of Wales and Southwestern England. Gusts of wind will reach 60-70mph and as high as 75mph on the coast. Damage and disruption may occur.

Maybe time to park up those dishes if in extremely exposed locations.

Just for once, it looks like the North will escape the worst, although it was not too clever last night.

I shall nevertheless park up my dishes in an extremely exposed location.

its been windy today here but all fine the jaeger 1224 is built very solid and the 3inch pole its mounted on helps to avoid movement

my old triax dish would have been wobbling about all over the place in these gales

Size definitely matters with mast diameter. My SMW dish clamped to a 3 inch mast doesn't move at all in the current winds :)
 
Completely calm up here - and the rain seems to have stoipped as well :)
 
Bit of a late warning, some 100mph gusts near the Isle of Wight last night, and more on the way for Monday.

unbeliveable ..not even a bit of wind here north east coast ...how we escaped it is amazing ...we normally have a nusiance wind evey day up here ....strange .
 
Yes, fairly calm here oop in t'Moors ............. but by all accounts there is some nasty stuff to come later in the week.

Its been mighty windy here!

I had to decide where park my van as a windbreak.......Dish or Fence?

Decision took seconds to make :)

Spoke to soon - Heating Pump has just failed.

Not caused by the weather, but it isn't the sort of thing you want when there is bad weather about.

Fortunately, as with Satellite bits and pieces, one has a spare sitting in a cupboard!
 
Electical equipment failures including light bulbs are common in high winds, often caused by the induced voltage fluctuations of the overhead power lines swinging in the breeze. Surges are common and the end user would be surprised at what voltages are actually received in their domestic environment.
 
True - but my Pump failure is just old age and a silted up impeller: It first failed five years ago and I cleaned it up and refitted it. Bought a spare.

Spare now in use and old one cleaned again, checked for function, and shoved in the emergency spares cupboard until I can be bothered to shell out another 28 notes for a brand new spare! Yorkshire frugality is a marvellous characteristic :D

I give myself 12 out of 10 for this particular piece of cheapskatedness ............
 
Have you flushed out the system or just not bothered ?

Just to change the subject slightly...
Not just voltage fluctuations responsible for lightbulb failure..
Stax do a range of Exploding filament candle bulbs..

You stand underneath the the light fitting and get someone to switch on the power ..
If you're lucky you are bathed in warm yellow glow..
If you're unlucky ...the bulb explodes literally ...and you are bathed in a shower of fragmented glass and hot metal..
..A sort of Russian Roulette...

HTF these things get past quality control ...and into the country beggars belief..

Oh, yes. Always have a spare bottle of Inhibitor around as well, just in case something untoward happens being planned maintenance periods. I buy these chemicals around April each year when they are knocking out the previous season's stock at giveaway prices.

No point in half-assed repairs ;)

Every point in being a Yorkshireman.

The worst is to come for us, I think.
