weird problem with freesat box

hello recently starting from last night i have been having weird problems with my manhattan plaza hd-s2, firstly there is a delay on powering up when pressing the power button on the remote and secondly the epg has no information in some sections when powering up. what do i do?

Could be degradation of the Power Supply Smoothing Capacitors.

Far too many devices are afflicted with this issue, caused by penny-pinching in production - using unnecessarily poor quality components.

Pop the case of the box and look at the capacitors in question. If they are bulging or leaking, and you're handy with a soldering iron, replace them.

strange as it was fine yesterday morning?? maybe ill have to get new box then.

That's an effect of the incipient failure.

In time, you might also find various Channels become unavailable too.

This is a common and widespread issue with Satellite receivers over the years, so there is a wealth of readily available info via a Search Engine of your choice.

but weird thing is the info comes if i leave the box on the epg for a few minutes

Not weird at all. Standard symptom.

If the problem is the power supply capacitors, the box might burst into life after a delay, but as further degradation occurs you will find further issues and it may well die completely.

If a box is kept in a very restrictive space then heat cannot escape easily and this will speed up the drying out of the electrolytic capacitors that are used in the power supply. Many boxes have been killed by people trying to make the installation tidy and sticking said box into a small hole. Any chance this might have happened?

i dont know how old it is but its was working fine yesterday morning it would turn on instantly when pressing the button on the remote but now there is a delay when pressing the button on the remote and the box turning on and no its not in a restrictive space

Well, it is computer so have you tried switching it off and back on again? And by switching off I mean disconnecting from the mains not just pressing the standby button.

yes as lazarus and you said its probably the capacitors so im going to get new box

If you do decide to go down that route why not use the old box to learn a bit about the insides? As said earlier, take the top off and inspect the capacitors. If you post photos up we can help point you at the ones to look at and how they deteriorate.

i decided to get temporary sky+ hd box until i get new freesat box

but should i be worried because a viewing card was in the box when i got it?

Not at all. Your only (slight) problem is if the box came from outside your TV area then it will regionalise to wherever that was and you'll have ITV and BBC1 for that area.

I would be more concerned the Sky box has exactly the same issues.

Not at all. Your only (slight) problem is if the box came from outside your TV area then it will regionalise to wherever that was and you'll have ITV and BBC1 for that area.

but isnt the card meant to be skys property since it was in box when i bought it?
