What can cause signal loss?

My equipment is a motorized offset dish, Invacom LNB, Amiko Alien 8900 receiver, and around 40m of cable.
I usually move the dish only to scan if there are any new interesting channels, on other satellites. Then I move it back to Astra at 19.2E. The problem I've been having is that in summer I get no signal on certain frequencies, between 11am-6pm.There are no problems in the evening, or in any other season, except summer. For example Euronews (12226 H) has no signal between 11am-6pm, and now ,10pm, i have 71% signal level and 100% quality, according to my receiver. I tried to switch the LNB profile from UNi (9750-10600) to UNI(9750-10750), still nothing. I then chose Low Band(9750) and I got signal on MTV 2(11739 V), on which I previously had no signal. But still no Euronews. I wonder if the LNB is at fault. The dish is properly align. Does anyone has any explenation or advice?

ok,
first do not change set up.
lnb must be 9.750 and 10.600.
you do not have uni lnb that is for sky italia on 13 degrees and with a sky italia box.
now what size dish do you have.
on 19 degrees there are 3 satellites. some transponders are stronger and some are weeker.
it could be the channel you are looking for is weeker and your dish is too small.
the signal on the satellite is stronger at night and weeker during the day.
we we need your dish size and lnb type.

Are you certain you have clear line of sight ?
The fact that you mention signal loss in summer might point to signal loss as trees come into full leaf..
Probably not the case ..but worth an ask ?

The size of the dish is 120cm, offset, and the description of the LNB is this: Invacom 0.3dB Single Output Universal SNh 031. The system is 6 years old, except the receiver, i bought it last summer. And yes, the whole area around in front and even on the back of the dish is cleared, no trees or buildings. My house is 30m away. I now take in consideration the cable, it runs through the attic. So today, I decided to inspect it by hand, all the way. It has not suffered any damage, i even bent it, to see if the coating has cracks, but nothing. What i noticed is that, up there, in the attic is very hot, especially between 11am to 6pm, i went up around 2pm and it was like a sauna, at least 45C. The cable was warm, not hot like the roof tiles. Could this be it? If so, then I would have to change the route of the cable, meaning another week of drilling holes in walls, hate that -the attic is such an easy solution for me.

But the strange thing is that on the same cable travels signal from another dish (prime focus dish, 180cm, Inverto black pro lnb with C120 flange, pointed at 28E), no signal loss there, no difference between day or night, or seasons. The signal from that dish is constant. The 2 dishes are connected with a 4 way switch. If i disconnect the large dish, and leave just the small one on Astra 19.2E, no switch, just dish to receiver cable, still no signal. I believe if the cable was at fault here, then the signal from the large dish would have been influenced as well, right? Not just the one from Astra 19.2E.

What i first decided to do is buy a cheap lnb, and try it with that, see what happens. If that doesn't help, i'll run some new cable.

Just a thought, but could it be a problem with your 4 way switch. In two of your posts you've explained that the attic gets very hot between 11am and 6pm and the signal disappears between the same hours. Surely there's a connection? Is the four way switch in the attic too? Is there any way you can connect directly, take the switch out of the circuit and check again when the attic is at it's warmest?
 
No the switch is not in the attic, it's behind the dish, outside, and yes i did tried to connect the dish directly to the receiver, without the switch, and still the same result. But today i left the receiver from early in the morning on Euronews - 12226 H, and around 12pm I checked and saw the signal was ok, around 70%, the weather still hot. When i switched channels and back to Euronews, i got NO OR BAD SIGNAL, it's strange, if i leave it on Euronews, it will work all day, but if i switch channels, it will "drop" signal.
 
Sounds like it could indeed be a problem with the LNB, perhaps some of the switching circuitry doesn't like the heat?
 
hello, here is what you can do.
bypass the switch and use a barrel conector and run it from the 19 degree dish and see what happens.
if it works its the switch overheating.
if it goes out its the lnb.
it could be the lnb is heating up and shifting in frequency causing the problem.
the chances the line is geting hot and its winking out is not likely.
it would have to have a melted line.i would run the line and bypass the switch.
and let us know.
 
I think I had something similar with an LNB a couple of years ago. How about you drape a cold cloth over the body of the LNB (obviously not the cap) and see if the frequency comes back? If so, I'd guess you need a new LNB.
 
hello, also wraping tin foil around the lnb,not the cap,it will reflect most of the heat as well.
if bypassing the switch is quick thing to do.
the switch could have a cold solder joint somewhere and it overhets and will not switch the relay inside.
also swaping the lines on the switch ,making b become a and a become b. then tell the box b is a and a is b.and see if the problem has changed.

Thank you all for your help. Today I've took off the LNB and did a full cleaning, with water and a clean cloth, the inside was covered in dust and spider web, i think they've all nested there. Now it's brand new. I even changed the F connectors. Finished around 4 pm and did a test, ALL OF THE TP's WERE WORKING. I won't get my hopes up, but I'll do a second test tomorrow, during the heat. At lest I know now the LNB was to blame. Thanks again for your suggestions and support, great forum.
