I want a quality home cinema kit for Christmas! I’ve been weighing up the pros and cons of the Sony DAV X1. It offers everything I need in terms of playback and style. In fact there’s not much about the system I don’t like! Sony is always my first choice when it comes to electronics but unfortunately that comes at a cost. I’m 95% sold on the DAV X1 but the price tag (rrp £899) is making me think very hard. So before I write my letter to Santa I open the floor to you lot!

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Have you gone into a specialist shop that has various home systems on demo display?

As you are just about to part with a grand, its worth going to see just exactly what makes the Sony and others tick.

Another Mac user - yipeeee...

Before you part with your cash for the Sony check here

It only £671.25 + free wall clock....

You may find it cheaper but as CH says go and see/hear the competition first.

Altho I'm glued to new Panasonic 42 plama and waiting for HD, I'd like to replace the ageing, not now very sharp, 14 in Sharp CRT in the bedroom with a 17 or 20 in LCD. It must be widescreen and it must have built in DVB-T. Seems rather a dearth of optiions. Went into local Comet (no I wasnt planning to buy from them!) but not much to see. And I forgotten how little the "salespersons" know.

Any suggestions. There's a "Wharfedale" 17 in advertised by Argos but they never have it. Too popular or too unreliable?
