My Satellite Setup
80 cm dish with dual lnb currently pointing to 3, Astra 1B,1C
My Location
Ryde Isle of Wight
Hi Guys,
After paying £40.00 a month to Sky for years, and now even more due to VAT increase I have had enough and purchased my own Sat kit with a motorised dish.
I am a complete newby, so your help would be appreciated.

Which is the nearest satellite for my location. and also can you suggest the best ones to tune into as favourites....
Latitude Longitude Elevation
Isle of Wight 50.720 - 1.157 9M

Would be really grateful if someone could advise me on this.

Well there are plenty to choose from in the arc above you, I have posted a picture of what you can see on the Clarke Curve above you. The point of having a motorised dish and setting it up correctly is that you should be able to receive the majority of them. Is there one in particular you are wanting?

Ah of course he is asking for his due south satellite for setting up purposes, I must have been having a blonde moment (again)
 
Many thanks for the welcome to the forum, and your response to my question.

I have looked at the Clarke Curve, Thor & Intelsat10-02 are very nicely positioned in the centre of the curve, so as you say I should be O.K. for a selection of Sats to scan.
I have no idea of any particular sats and their content, so I am hoping maybe you guys can advise me with your opinion.

As you will have a motorised system you have the flexibility to pick and choose, you have the choice of lots of satellites.When you get it set up, see if you can get badr4 on 26E, you may stand a chance as the MBCs are good FTA.

That is the nearest geostationary satellite position, used for general communications and television/radio broadcasts.
