What receiver to go for?

My Echostar AD3000IP appears to have died, blue screen, no signal and no response from any button presses from receiver or remote so maybe a new receiver is required, possibly HD!

The talk among Satellite forums is all Linux and CS server based receivers Vu+ Duo, Dreambox, AzBox, Cube Revo etc. etc. I have managed over the years (with forum help) to keep my Dragon cam updated etc. but I’m not sure how I would fair with these new boxes or should I look at a basic receiver say Technomate and keep it simple?

Over the years I have had Digitalb and Art cards for the footy and have been looking at Bulsatcom and Tring packages for this season.

The boxes mentioned also vary greatly in price so any views on which way the ‘hobby’ is headed might help with my choice?

All down to your budget really, but I would keep it simple for now. Go get a basic Technomate (with CI) and a VBox II unit and play around for a short while with the existing CAMs. Then you can look at the 'all singing' units and plug whichever you buy into the tuner outlet of the TM until you are familiar with the running. Then sell off the TM to get some funding back.
