I am probably not using this thread properly because I cannot work out how to post a new thread. So, apologies before I start. However, can anyone advise me on how to find out, before I buy, what size dish I might need to receive the freeview channels from the UK while I am here in the Czech republic? I am on longitude. 18.7 E and 49.66 N LATitude, which is in Ostrava. PS I am not at all technical, so if someone would kindly help then please keep it REALLY simple. Thanks.

You can't receive channels from Astra north beam (like ITVs, BBCs...) because your geographic position is out of the satellite beam.
(You should do test with 3m or 4m dishes, maybe they could works...)

No problem with most of channels (like Zone Horror'O'-red or TrueMovies), you can watch them with a very small dish.

Just to correct the above so ppl don't get :confused

You are referring to Astra 28 spot UK beam. The North beam is receivable across Europe :D

Have you any idea then what size dish I might need to receive the signal from this North beam? Also, does this beam carry the free to air channels from the BBC and ITV and will I need a different receiver box? [ I have an Amstrad sky digibox] Thanks for the help so far.

This beam doesn't carry ITV/BBC. Check the websites below for footprint/dish size and channels shown on all the beams. (look at 2A, 2:cool:

Dish size guess would be in the region of between a 60cm & 80cm.

You can get Astra 2D in your region. Since i cannot recommend the exact dish size have a look at _http://www.dxsatcs.com/ and _http://forum.skysunsat.pl/282e-%3Cb%3Eeurobird-1-astra-2a-2b-2c-2d%3C-b%3E-vf93.htm?sid=1caae2af1d41ad5297da09b3aadee85e

_http://forum.skysunsat.pl/tematy93/astra-2d-mapka-pokrycia-dla-polski-vt6892.htm shows that you have good chances to catch the strongest 2D frequencies on a 1.80m dish. The question is which size you need to have all 24/7.
