What's going on?

I turned on my Freesat this morning and discovered that I had access to almost all channels (including sports, movies etc) which I am normally told that I need to upgrade my subscription to view.

I thought that it may have been an early morning thing but I can still watch everything this evening.

Is this the Sky TV way of getting me hooked so I sign up for a subscription?

Sods Law says I'll be in the middle of a good film and it'll switch off.
 
Very unusual, don't knock it though. :) Be interesting to see if this has happened to any other members.
 
Hi,.. I seem to have the same.

I have just set up a pace box bought from ebay which came with a yellow house card. With this card the box works more or less ok although it seems to have a very old firmware which will not update. No extra channels with this card.............but....... when I put in my old freesat card from another box to keep it up to date suddenly I seem to have access to everything (Sky 1.. paramount.. discovery.. disney etc) except movies, box office, and sports (nb this differ from MPlbs experience) . Unfortunately with this card the epg is barely working and its very hit and miss as to what channels are actually listed (it does switch back to its correct region though).

Not sure whether to be happy or sad! Looks like the box could be stuck on old software based on comments here and elsewhere without posibility to upgrade, not really an option to return it as I am in Spain and postage will be too much. On the other hand some interesting results could be had by swapping between the two cards if this is a permanent bug :)

For scientific purposes anyone who has access to multiple cards might try swapping them around between boxes to see what happens.

Interesting, keep us posted as to how long this continues...

Maybe Sky are having problems cancelling the card back to Freeview because of problems with the receiver software?
 
I also have a customer here who purchased a digibox from a local dealer a couple of months ago,with a ftv card and he gets all the of the pay channels,except when he selects sports or movies it says wrong card,so obviously it was an ex subscription card from a different box.
some people are just lucky
 
as soon as the football on tps is over, I'll take a look with my dreambox.

My Dad (who the card is registered with in the UK) received a letter from Sky on Tuesday saying that I'd receive all channels from the 4th to the 30th September.

I figure it must be their way of trying to get me hooked and sign up to a subscription.

Now, if only they'd let me pay-per-view for this winters Ashes tour in Australia... That I'd be interested in...
 
That would explain it.. in my case the sports and movie channels dont work giving a message about the card not being the correct one for the box. Probably means I would have everything if I still had the box that the card was authorised in :(

This still leaves me with a 2600C1 stuck on old firmware 1.2s4bq epg 3.1a.5
I cant get it to update.. is there any hope for it?

I haven't subscribed to Sky for well over six years. And yes, they used to do that when I was subscribing on the lowest channels. They'd give me the whole lot for three days, but I found them boring. :D

with your receiver, make the most of it!
