I use the matched feed horn on my gibertini 1.25.

The lnb is an invacom c120 lnb.

hi chris1979

have you noticed a big signal difference between a bu and a c120 setup on the weaker signals ie 7w etc ??

I have only had the c120 invacom lnb when I installed the gibertini dish so I can't really help you there.

I know @Feedsat_DXer did test some lnb's and found the the invacom lnb was slightly better then an rt lnb.

The matched feed horn doesn't increase signal but greatly reduced the ber.

The invacom lnb needs cable lengths of less then 20 meters.

I have just modified my Gibertini 100cm dish arm to improve the signal from the BU
By sawing the bottom corner off the Lnb arm I have managed to relocate the Lnb holder nearer to the dish see illustration below,

I then experimented with the Lnb angle & was able to improve my signals by approx 15% for example MBC on 26 east was 47% signal quality now I get 62%SQ
All other satellite signals improved,
The new Lnb arm length is 62.5cm measuring at the top of the Lnb arm.

DSCN0887[1].JPG

Before this modification the Lnb had to be fully forward for maximum signals now I can find the optimum position that was not possible before,
Adjusted dish declination for best signals with this set up,

I hope this helps anyone with a similar problem,

I just knew the gibby was capable of more signal than I was getting.

Great idea but its trial and error, what if you cut it a bit short.
I remember speaking to an old chap near me who has since died. He showed me how to ensure the lnb was exactly centering on a prime focus dish with a cardboard tube or similar. He had a tube that was over a metere long and was the exact size of the lnb holder. Clamped in the holder and it showed the holder had a twist on it, not centreing on the dish. Said he got a better signal afterwards. Keep meaning to do it with mine but its a sod to keep getting on the roof.

By cutting it at an angle I can restore the Lnb to it's previous position if I had got it wrong,
Yes I appreciate that it is not as easy as my set at ground level.

Hi Steve,

I am using a Technomate 0.2 db with better results than the BU, ive tried an TM 0.1db yesterday but a drop in signal compared to the 0.2db, from my reading a 0.1 db could work better on long cable runs, I will make a list of what I have and post up, you could get a few different types and we could work together testing and then swap a few.

@martin-f : did you try the invacom c120 and the channel master feedhorn ?

This lnb don't have the best nos figure but with the channel'master you may have very tood result, also the cross polar is perfect with this one, better than the inverto black pro c120.

The 2nd best lnb in on my laminas is the octagon otlo pll, better than the IBU.

There are no best lnb, but according to my experience, there are good combination, you have to find the best LNB for your antenna .

But this is just my point of view.

Just my personal experience but i have tried the Invacom with official feedhorn compared to a Black Ultra Twin standard non modified and the Twin Black ultra beat the Invacom with matched feedhorn.

I also tried a single Black Ultra and found the Twin to be slightly better, Only recently i have tested the new Primesat Twin Platinum LNB this one here:
Code:
http://www.primesat.eu/lnbs_satellite_lnb.php
and still the Black Ultra Twin beat it again on quite a few transponders in fact i lost most on 7.3° west.

I believe there was a discussion not long ago about maybe a couple of manufacturing plants for the Black Ultra which makes either the white label or red label one cant remember exactly but perhaps this could be a factor in many comparisons between LNB's

I used to have a Gibertini 100. I tried lot's of lnbf's and also a couple of different feedhorns on it. The good old CD-80 feed sweaped the floor with all of them for Astra 2d. Not easy to get hold of these days I guess, but anyway, this PDF contains a picture:

Those are the Smart Titanium rockets i have 4 of them Quads on a MultiLNB install that goes to 4 rooms in my house, They are very good but as parkiepie420 suggested above if you can get hold of the Single Smart Titanium Mark1 version this will give the Black Ultra a run for its money

Thanks digi, like ive said the TM 0.2DB is out preforming the BU on my setup, it was just the shape of the Titanium in my link that appealed to me for getting C band closer to the centre, but the best KU lnb will have to take the main spot whatever it is i am willing to do extensive tests to find what suites my setup best.
