yesterday i read on flysat,that the old transponders has been swtiched off,does ths mean,the new satelltie is now already activated for europe?
i read now reception reports currencly ,when,the very weak african beam,will be activated?
 
So far its only Astra 1E which has been switched off at 23E - Astra 1G will follow it in the next few days then both craft will be redeployed elsewhere.

Theres no Africa beam as such on Astra 3B:

Well to be honest theres a "World Cup 2010 Africa beam" in one of the technical documents, but thats probably just a temporary measure to give additional transmission capacity, and is likely to be the Middle Eastern beam just slewed southwards.

What's happening with 3A?
 
No information atm, although 3B will replace her sooner or later as shes getting on a bit now.
 
Well, Astra 3B has 1 fixed and 2 spot beams. One of the spot beams is for Middle East and other for Europe. Beam published as European beam on Ses-Astra homepage was used in South Africa during the World Cup. Probably in 2012 they will use same spot beam for replacing Astra 3A.

Do you think they might move it to 28ºE for a bit of extra spot beam capacity?

Astra 2C doesn't have a spot beam. What is really lacking at 28ºE is spot beam capacity. Astra 3A is a spot beam satellite, pretty much the same spec as 2D.
