Where To Get A Freesat HD Decoder And Will It Work ?

Hello,
I'm living in france and i would like to recive freesat to watch bbc and other channels,
I belive you need a decoder and extra dish to do so, what exactly would i need and where can i get it ?
And is there some kind of monthly fee ?
 
Freesat is, by definition, free and there is no need for a card.

You can either buy a Freesat branded box which will parcel up the channels with a nice 7 day EPG, or you can pick up any cheap generic Free To Air Satellite Receiver from a Hypermarket.

As for a dish, do you have one already? If you do - for "Sky", for example, you can use that.

If not, tell us whereabouts in France you are and we can tell you what size dish you need.

I live in south west france in the forest and i have a regular satellite for Canal+ if that helps
And if i understand i can just buy a freesat box, plug it in, find the satellite and i'm good to go ?
 
As long as you use an appropriately sized dish you will be fine.
 
You might get away with 60cm, but I'd suggest 80cm.
 
And make sure you stick a UK postcode in if you get a pukka Freesat box :D

If you want an HD PVR the Hummy is well regarded.

Could be, if that's the case then it'll be a box about 12" high but electronics only in the bottom 1"... :-lol

Hi alex a 80cm dish is fine, as i use an 80cm in villa france de perigord and it works well. Your canal+ dish is a good marker for the freesat 80cm as its only a difference of 10degrees to the left as you look dead on. hope this helps m8

I'm having trouble finding a freesat box supplier in france,
I was going to buy one off amazon but it can't get shipped,
Anyone have a decent website ?
 
You won't get a a Freesat supplier in France unless you go to one of the installers who specialise in serving the ex-pat community. And you'll probably pay a lot for it that way.

As Analoguesat says, several of the forum sponsors sell Freesat receivers - I suggest you take a look there. They service the UK and can probably give a postage price to France.

Alternatively, do you have family or friends in the UK who can buy one for you and then ship it out to you? I'm doing just this for a friend in France when I go there next weekend, although I'm taking it rather than posting.

Can't think why .............. as long as the receipt shows the VAT has been paid. Don't forget we are in the same free trade area as France.

No, absolutely not.

As Tivu says, both France and the UK are part of the European Union. Since 1992, I think, providing the correct taxes and duties have been paid in one member state of the EU then another state cannot put extra tax or duty on the item.

Frankly, you won't even be asked for a receipt at the border controls.
