Where to mount motorised dish on house ?

Hi all,
I've got hold of an 80cm dish / bracket and planning to buy a 2nd hand motor off ebay.

My house rearwards looks out 22°E and is in a row which means I get due south...just, but nothing southwest because its blocked by the neighbours house.

I've read the initial idiots guide for dish setup but I am not clear on what direction I shoud be aiming as a central point. Is the best datum point ( like top-dead-centre on a car engine piston ) due south ? Hope not, otherwise I'll have to bulldoze the neighbours)(-red

You need a good sweep of the arc. Could you supply some clearer pictures and an idea of location. Maybe possible to achieve with a suitable set of brackets and mast :)
 
The traditional datum is due South, but with USALS widely available these days, it is no longer "de rigeur" and you can install a Motorised system by fixing any point on the arc.

But the symmetry of due South means it is still preferable in some ways - but if you do have a restricted arc, it is by no means a "stopper".

Can you get due south or not!? I'm confused with what you just said.


Having due south is not necessary, if using USALS you cansend the dish to 13E or similar and align the system up for that instead.

To get more of the arc, you can put the dish on a scaffold above the gutter line.

And Yes, due south is usually the datum, and it is the top of the arc, zero on the motor.

Location is Rochdale UK, the pic is the best I can do but it does show the google north-south line in contrast with the rear of the house ( semi-det with silver flat garage roof )
 
What about a pole or groundstand in the garden? that may get you more of an arc.
