Which ~1m Dish

I've currently got a Triax TD110 ground mounted at the end of my garden but it's a few years old now, the rim has been slightly bent and the arm needs some packers to optimise the signal. I want a completely fresh install in a new location. I need to decide which dish to go for, a lot of the posts on 1m dishes are years old now. I'm aware that the TD110 is no longer in production but might still be able to source a new one. I understand it will outperform the Gibertini 1m if perfectly aligned as it's bigger but getting it perfectly aligned is tricky with the bracket. I was researching other options and came across

Orbital 1m - Gain higher than TD110 specs but can't find a supplier and mixed reviews on here
Primesat 1/1.1 - One negative thread on here but not much information otherwise

Are there any other newer production dishes I could consider, any recommendations which to go for? Often tune into feeds so every db matters but can't move up to 1.2 due to the dish location. Are gain figures a reliable figure to go off?

Is the dish motorised or fixed?
Nothing wrong with Gibertinis, though sourcing one has become slightly more difficult thanks to the 'B' word.

Ensuring the dish is not warped or damaged, and is correctly aligned is more important than a few extra centimetres - and as you've found the slightly larger Triax is a pig to align.

Consider second hand Channel Master or Prodelin. Even they are used they will always work like brand new, and after regular washing they will also look like brand new.
 
Set and save a "Search" on ebay for the dish(es) that you would like, and make sure you "tick" the box that pops up to ask if you want to receive emails about new listings of those because quite a few do pop up from time to time.

They often start at ridiculously low BIN or "Make an Offer" prices compared with the "buying new" prices, or they then just don't get many (if any) bids at all and sell for a pound or two because people just want to get rid of them and only 1 person did actually make any bid at all! To look for the latter set the search to "Ending soon"

That's more or less how I got my Gibby OP125L which I saw listed about 2 yrs ago when I was "just idly looking around" at what was on offer. It was very local (West Drayton) and there had been only 1 offer of around £70 some days/weeks earlier, so I made a "silly offer" of £85 - and that's what I got it for, complete with STAB motor (later proved faulty!), an Inverto Black Ultra, ground mount and cables. Took a bit of work (and my estate car) to get it back here, but has since definitely proved worth the money, effort and time. :D

I doubt you will find an Orbital dish these days (I keep one reflector in the garage as a replacement for a number of customers if they suffer a failure.

Have a look for Fracarro, brand name 'Penta'. Exceedingly well made with good performance.

i took my triax td110 down the dump today! couldnt sell or give it away! crazy.
 
Go for a Master Focus, not cheap but solid.

is it ok to powerwash a channel master dish face?,as i have green stubborn algae on mine which i haved tryed to remove with washing up liquid and hot water.
my powerwasher is only a household type its not a big psi industrial one.

Maybe (I don't actually know for certain if it's true for a CM!) powerwash it with your m/c and then spray it with a dilute household bleach solution and that would probably kill all/most any remaining algae - that worked with my quite "well-infested" TD110 quite a few years ago.

I have never done power-wash, but kitchen sponge and shampoo works great. Adding some bleach is also OK. The most difficult part is the back of the dish, especially corners between strength ribs.
Add: Almost forgot- steam generator helps as well.

That's where using a powerwasher would do the job very effectively - a few seconds with one of those should shift any "stuff", apart from paint and the like. If a dish can't "take that" then it's not a very good one anyway.:rolleyes:

i do not have a steam generator,i suppose it would be ok to powerwash the back of the channel master im not sure.
 
Be careful using a pressure washer on a Channel Master - if there is any light damage to the face it could cause the thin layer of fibreglass to flake off exposing the mesh beneath.

I cleaned the rear of a filthy Channel Master today, Fairy Liquid, stiff paintbrushes and a new toothbrush worked well for cleaning off the algae and getting into the nooks & crannies. The paint had already disappeared so will be getting a fresh coat.

On the last CM I painted I used Valspar multi surface green satin spray paint from B&Q. This was a few years ago and the paint has lasted well, none has flaked or rubbed off. I sprayed multiple thin layers rather than one thick one.
