This is very important even now, a lot of people try powering things up that have not been used for a long time, especially "Vintage" products or New old stock. Ideally a VARIAC should be used to bring everything up slowly to reform the caps and lessen the damage if something is short circuit.Capacitors? Pah, it was condensers in my day
BTW, recycling is all the rage these days: years ago, we used to reform stored or aged electrolytics (the big ones in power amps and radios) br passing a current at the cap's rated voltage through a high value resistance for a few hours until the cap's working voltage had been achieved - if it didn't burst before it had reformed![]()
