Or at least her new phone does

Her service provider gave a good deal on a Nokia 610 but the standard SIM card doesn't fit in it.

Can a standard SIM be cut down by hand to fit? If not I've seen these cutters on eBay for just over two pounds, will they do the job ?

You can cut them, there are masks available on the net for doing so. I wen't into Carphone Warehouse and they used a tool to cut mine down, as couldn't be arsed to mess about with scissors..

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

You can ask the provider to supply a Micro SIM, they should supply one but may charge, and as for cutting, that does work, but it risks damaging the SIM card if you cut in the wrong place... :)

Don't forget to get an adaptor to use the micro SIM in a regular SIM slot though, just to have some backward-compatibility... :)

I cut my old one with a stanley knife although i did have a template to do it with in the first place but it worked first time and no waiting for 3 days while your provider posts out a new one.

You can get the tool to do them for a few quid on the internet (it's like a hole punch that you place the SIM into then squeeze and it punches out the middle as a micro SIM). Alternatively just take it along to one of those dodgy-looking mobile phone stands you get in town centres/shopping centres and they'll use the same tool to do it for you for £1 or £2.
