My Satellite Setup
1 x Sky HD, 1 x Sky SD, 5TB NAS, Gigabit networking.

Hi guys!

I've just got rid of Sky (costing too much $$ each month, kid on the way, so making some cutbacks!).

My current setup consists of a Sky-HD box in the lounge, a Sky SD box in the bedroom and a £47 bill each month for the pleasure. I'm not interested in recieving premium channels, i.e. sports or movies. In both rooms I have an XBMC based media centre. I am aware that XBMC can act as a front end for the dreambox. I'm looking at picking up a Dreambox 500s (or similar) to use as a satellite "server". Basically, I want to connect the dreambox to my network so I can stream TV to the XBMCs but also be able to record stuff to my NAS. The dreambox won't be permanently connected to a TV; probably end up hidden in a cupboard somewhere.

Through research, I know I can do the above with minimum of fuss, my question is: Even though the dreambox 500s is an SD reciever, because I will only be using it to stream the TV signal, will I be able to send an HD stream to my XBMCs? Or will I need to use an 800s?

Cheers guys,

Kai.

the 500s as you say is a sd receiver only so as such it wont even be able to pick up a hd signal to stream it.

How are you planning to get epg and recordings set up in XBMC? with the TuxBox Client plugin I know you can access the bouquets and stream from the box but I didn't think there was a frontend for the epg and scheduling recordings.
