Can I run that with a windows PC or will it need Linux?
It runs Linux in the background, its so easy to install, it runs its own "Firmware" no Linux knowledge needed, just download and install it on some old crappy PC.

This PC is an Atom J1900! It will run on anything...

17134.1 was working ok (relatively speaking for w10). After downloading 1.5 Gb (latest KB's etc) followed by endless hd trashing, this !! (see attachment) :-doh:-wow F**k the Microshit morons from Mordor.

Will look into it in 1\2 years time, ftm wil definitely stay with the perfectly working and 100% troublefree 8.1 on all my laptops.

To brighten my day, loaded up my trusty, beautiful, stable, nice & friendly old w7. What a nice OS in all respects.

& and btw, 7 still the world's no1 OS by a large margin even after Microshit's years of attempts at killing it.

For the experts:

"MSMG Toolkit v8.7 has been released. Time to have some fun removing the cancer from this POS OS" :)

From Windows 10 Redstone 4 Laptop forums

The only issue I've got with Win 10 is the very slow performance of File Manager. Other than that, it's surprisingly good, which is saying summat as I'm a Linux Mint aficionado.

Me - most m/c's here are on W10 but the "main m/c" is staying on W7 Pro for the foreseeable future!

I think this pc is terminal I will have to pull it apart.

It was an amd Athlon 2.6ghz (black edition) msi mobo a huge ide 320gb hdd and cd-rw, 4gb ram.

Perhaps I can salvage some of the parts.

Thats what I like to hear - my last build was mainly out of the junk boxes, just the case and psu were new. I could have reused one of the old cases and probably will do for the next build which is likely to be a sstv build - I think Ive got enough bits lying around to make another one up.

Classic shell has been abandoned by its developer as its too much trouble to keep updating. Win10 is the biggest POS Ive ever had the misfortune to use - Ive given up on it at home & reverted the machines to Win7
That is a shame I always found it to be so useful getting away from all these tiles, I wonder how much MS paid him to 'decide' to stop developing

and when you have win 10 already how do you put win 7 back?
We an old CD legal copy of win 7(from a previous ,broken and thrown out computer)

Just do a full install of win 7 wiping the drive during the install. However, modern mobos are moving towards obsoleting win7 so its not going to be an option for new kit much longer.

Thanks for the link, and here's my take on the whole recent Windows "update" fiasco (as I have just told our local U3A Computer Group leader, ahead of tomorrow's mtg!)
NB: In the following text I had to replace the “backslash” symbol with the “*” because this netbook has a US keyboard and I had to remap the keys, but failed with the “backslash” which should be on the top left key !

We DON’T use the default Windows C: *Users * Name* My Documents (etc.) file locations, but keep them in separate folders on the disk (in fact, I always partition the disks into 3 – C:*, D:*, E:* - and so we save documents, music, videos etc., on a different partition, usually E:* !)

A good collection of 'stuff', incl an overview of privacy tools that can tame the Candy Crush 10 os.
Basic Security And How To Tutorials

Have postponed the whole 1809, will only download defender updates until they release something that seems trustworthy.

Currently working on getting a good grip on 1803. It's still the same experimental frankenstein os, although marginally better behaved and structured then the earlier mishmashes they managed to unleash, and with the advent of better and better tools from the good guys out there, getting quite easy to decontaminate.

Attachment, condition at boot (and persisting), zero unwarranted MS trash-apps loading and -total- radio silence, no internet activity whatsoever unless personally initiated. Nice, may actually one day start to use that os for something :O)
