Best wishes to fellow Pagans and to all those who recognise that many of the traditions of the Christmas festivities of modern times are rooted in our ancient Pagan traditions.

At 10.44 GMT today, the North Pole is tilted 23.5 deg away from the Sun, making this the shortest day of the year.

I shall sacrifice a Bacon Sandwich by way of homage (Virgins are in short supply).

Both virgins and bacon in short supply here, so we celebrated by toasting slices of brioche, topping them with blackcurrant jam and throwing another peasant on the fire...though not in that order...

Winter Solstice - a personal view


Summer's gone for winter's here
Another lost to time I fear
Time to shed another tear
Chronos whispers in my ear
You can't arrest the passing year

The Dark devours the light of day
And none can stand to block its way

I stand before the silvered glass
And chance to see a stranger stare
But not the boy who once stood there
A wisened man with silver hair
That boy has gone ,I know not where
A warning call that all shall pass

Beyond the clouds beneath the sun
The fight goes on though neither won
And I will wake once more not done

The worst is passed I'm not yet dead
I drag my body from my bed
The reaper cheated, where he led
My sleepy eyes my aching head
Perhaps next year ? ..I'll bide he said

The Day fights back the long dark night
Once more the victor is the light

Will have to find a suitable drink to welcome its return ( ritual ) even if cloudy.

Wait a day on Earth is still 23 hours 56 min and 4.o916 sec if my ships chronometer is still right for this side of the Sagittarius arm of the milky way....Or has something changed in the last 50000 years.

Found this homebrew drink recipe:-

Fiery Ginger Beer 5 gallons

1kg Fresh grated ginger
5tsp Dried ground ginger
1tsp Cream of tartar
2 lemons
2 limes
2.5kg Sugar
2tsp Yeast nutrient
1 sachet champagne yeast

This makes ~5% proof ginger beer.

Will gather/shop for ingredients on monday and start brewing

Well today was the day, pity the sun missed its apointment, but true to tradition performed the above mentioned ritual at correct time with a glass of homemade fiery alchohlic ginger beer.
