By the way, Nelson and Pipino, what blind search receivers are you currently using for C-band (and Ku come to that).

for DVB-S2 i have 2 decoders for blind search scan

Vantage 221TS and Manhattan Plaza ST550 ,but i mostly use Vantage
for DVB-S2 i use illusion max2hd from tecatel this decoder is vantage 6000hd combo decoder
look here: _http://www.satellite-heaven.de/testberichte/vantage-hd-7100-hd-6000-hdtv-usb-pvr.htm
i had some reports from m8s that the latest version from azbox(ultra) is extremly good for blind scanning and specialy 4.2.2 transmissions..i might get one soon...regards

I've got Vantage x221's and Manhattan XT-M and ST500. I'm not keen on the tuner in the Vantage (and I've got two so it's not just a faulty one) and the other two are slow and not very user friendly.

Where do they sell that Illusion receiver and how much is it. Best price I've seen for the Azbox Ultra is 195€ + IVA. I'd be interested to know the speed of the blind search in minutes and how sensitive the tuner is.

There's an excellent write up on the AZbox Ultra here :

_http://www.tele-satellite-global.com/TELE-satellite-1009/eng/azbox.pdf

I'm quite impressed actually, especially as my Vantage doesn't have as sensitive a tuner as my Manhattan and it takes ages to do a blind search (About take the dogs out for a walk and do the shopping time!) as it's a software only search.

Is the price for the AZbox Ultra trade? The best I can find here is €269 plus delivery.

No, it is retail. It's 199€ and there is a discount on top of that for paying by bank transfer. Plus the VAT at 18%... if you can't reclaim it.

_http://www.electronicasuiza.com/es/productos.php4?cat=72&olimit=10&query=

In that article it says blind scan 13 minutes... the Openbox is supposed to do it in 2 minutes.

just to add ,,i spoke with my m8 he told me that the blind scan on ultra is quite slow ..but he mentioned the original software being limited..but perfectly lock on 4.2.2 transmissions ,,also play most codecs if you use it as multimedia machine , i'm still looking more infos about the tuner's sensetivity

Sadly, I don't think I could reclaim the tax. Also the blind scan is a darn sight quicker than the 2 - 3 hours my Vantage takes......which is why I haven't used it in ages!!

Today I am experimenting to see what I can receive on linear polarised C-band satellites. I started with 55.5W. Gave a fig tree a trim to get line of sight to the satellite. Did a search and with the plate out. I am receiving 76 services.

Nelson, how well do you receive this one with the CM 1.8m?

hi -
i,v accidentaly deleted the channel list for this sat on the vantage

i seem to think it was around 45 tv and 30 radio channels
although i dont get full advantage of my dish at 55.5 west due to a perimeter wall -- i,m losing about 1/5 th off the bottom

cant check right now as the reed sensor in the actuator has failed - i,m expecting a replacement to arrive any day now

i will post back here when i,m back in action again

hi - Huevos -
back in action now -- a blind search showed 45 tv 30 radio -

but caribvision had to be input manualy as i suspect some other t.p,s will need -- signal levels are a bit shakey but no picture breakup ---

cheers nelson.b.

Ok, it's starting to get irritating now so I'll probably do the same.

I wish the dish was bigger, but it's only cost me the price of an LNB to get my C-band toe wet, and I probably wouldn't have bothered otherwise. I've attached a few C-band captures.

Nicely done Huevos. Being an Offset design, the Ku band shouldn't be affected, so I would say a positive return.

(Now you can try the X, Ka and S bands.......)

good results - from a wide range of sats -
i think you can be well pleased with what you are getting there --
i never expected to get very good results with my offset dish but i was pleasantly surprised --- my view is partialy blocked in the far- west and fully blocked after 49 east
you have a good view of the whole arc - i think !
and yes taking that plate in and out - and setting it correctly again - is tiresome!
not much cost to add a second one - l.o.l.

HELLO Huevos

I like your new setup, the Gibertini with 4 LNB's

By the way I don't understand a lot of thing :

-why you put 4 lnb's on the dish one 4 Ku and another for C wouldn't be enough?
...of course Ku in the focus and C near!

-why you setup the dish so low from the ground? If I were U , I would put da dish at 3,5-4m from the ground

I saw on "youtube" your videos and I noticed that you get satellites 68,5E and 58W
I'm interested if U can get:

68,5E

Doordarshan channels 4034 V 19559 and "NHK" 3739 H 26589

66E the new is17 bird which has very strong signal at my QTH

64E c band

60E__________ Global Star TV 11149 V DVB-S2/8PSK MPEG-4 26667 3/4

57E__________ FOX MOVIES 3662 L 5800 3/4

49E_________SABA TV 3776 R 3374 3/4

2,8E________Congo pachage 4051 R 9012 3/4

34,5W______KNR(Greenland) 3714 L 2915 7/8 and the DR (Denmark feed ) 4067 L 2915 7/8

37,5W______ Metro TV (Ghana) 3805 H 2142 7/8

I use also a 1,5m dish but it is Prime Focus .My reception is between 93,5E and 37,5W and i'm interested how an offset dish works in C band.Tell me your location (QTH) because I don;t know it

Best Regards

Normally the dish is parked at 28ºE and those 2 LNBs get me 26ºE and 23ºE without having to move the dish. Most other Ku satellites are on the T90 so for 98% of channel changes the dish doesn't move and zapping is instant.

The only reason to raise the dish is because it is not possible to see the arc, but I don't have that trouble.
