Advice Needed Would someone mind scanning Turksat 42E?

I've noticed recently that on my 80cm dish, some of the channels on 42E are coming through at a lower SNR than before. Now I'm not too sure whether this is due to time of year, dish misalignment or simply lower transponder power.

The one's I've noticed quite more so are the TRT HD channels at 11054 V. My box is jumping between 71 - 74% on these when before they were much stronger. The TRT SD channels at 11958 V differ between 79 - 82%

The Cyprus mux of BRT 1, BRT 2 & BRT HD at 12540 H comes in quite weak at only 49% SNR.

I'd be interesting to know what SNRs other people receive from this sat, preferably also from an 80cm dish so I can compare.

There you go. Cant help you with the 80cm dish as this is from Xtrend XT9500 using my 1M Gilbertini which is in the West Midlands. Just did a fresh rescan. Its really cloudy and raining so the figures would normally be up a little on what they are at the moment.

It looks like your dish / Lnb set up needs adjustment.

SpiderboxHD99000 + 88 x 78cm mesh dish
11054V = 95% signal quality
11958V = 97%
12540H = 73%

Thank you both for checking, really appreciate it.

I feared it would be the dish/LNB, although I don't know whether its been misaligned due to weather or simply setup slightly off. When my motorised setup was done, the TRT HD channels used to come in at 78% with the SD mux at 82%. Looking at those screenshots and stats though, it looks like even on an 80cm dish I should be receiving both the HD/SD versions at around 95%.

Saying that, it's probably the dish - it's 10 years old now and only just this year became part of a motorised setup. There are a few specs of rust on the edges.

Edit: Just gone back through my conversations with the installer, the dish I have is 70 x 80cm

A little rust on the outer rim will not cause any problem with the dish. don´t bin the old girl yet! Lnb may be the problem, but first I´d check more basic issues, such as F type connector not waterproof on the lnb, any joints in cable?

Check that the dish is centred on the motor pole sometimes in windy weather the dish can move slightly.

Move the motor to zero reference position and check.

I tried increasing and decreasing the latitude settings by three digits but it doesn't really change the SNR too much.
Changing the longitude will have more of an effect.Cheers

Thanks for the replies :) Will try changing Longitude. How keen should I be about this? would changing from 0.017 to 0.020+ be too much? (or even 0.012 the other way)

My motorised dish is currently offset by 2 degrees on the receivers USAL's set up to correct a misalignment due to high winds blowing the motor and dish round the mounting pole slightly. I wouldn't worry too much about anything up to + or - a degree. There's no substitute for getting it aligned properly though. I'd check to see if your mount is still vertical and recheck the dish elevation too.

Try changing it by 0.1 degree at a time.

Are you really using a mesh dish for Ku band? Or do you really mean a perforated solid dish? I wish people would stop misdescribing perforated dishes as "mesh".

I wish you'd stop nitpicking Dave just for a change as its getting boring now, we all know what hes on about and we all know that anyone describing an 80cm mesh dish is on about a perforated one. You seem to take pleasure in trying to make people look stupid which is not warrented or wanted!

Anyway i'm off to get a cupper made with a mesh teabag :D

It is rather easy to be confused by the term " mesh dish " as many of the retailers call them mesh dishes on their websites, including of forum sponsors.

Manic, was it a square, round or pyramid mesh teabag, you didn´t specify:-lol

I think you'll find it was a circular mesh tea-bag :-doh
I do hate it when people describe mesh circular tea bags as perforated round ones :-lmao
OK, I stand corrected, but it´s not all my fault. I blame " Play School " , they had a square , arched and round window. Never mentioned a circular one. Blame it a a bad education:eek:

Thanks for the replies again. I will try changing the longitude by 0.01 degree at a time. Will hold off for now, 45mph winds are battering the south east again today (and the rest of the week by the looks of it). These heavy winds have been somewhat constant since I got my dish motorised, bloody typical! :D

As for describing dishes, I'm obviously still a newbie - I wouldn't know the difference between a mesh dish or a perforated solid dish. So long as they are circular, aren't they pretty much all the same? :D
