So ...
finally took the plunge and opted for a new console to replace my 'tricked' 360..
The main reason was the ability to play 4K UHD blu-ray.
Certainly a cheaper option than a dedicated player..
Well it arrived today ..£240 for a gears of war bundle ..
I chose this rather than the FIFA jobby doing the rounds ..as I hate football with a passion..
Not tried it yet ..as I'm at work ...but was tempted to 'open the box'
Mainly to check contents..
Disappointed a bit they sent me a white one ...but I'll get over it..
I was expecting to see a disc in there ..but I guess it is just a redemption certificate these days ?
Is the lack of a disc usual these days ?
If so ..wont this take an age to download the game ?
OR ..is it pre-loaded perhaps ?
Will hook it up tonight ..

Most of the bundled games are via download, you should have a scratch card with a code in it.

My one console has a 500gb hdd in it, after downloading 5 games, plus the mandatory updates you will soon need to upgrade the storage.

Most games are about 60-120gb's for the one.

Thanx Chris ..
mine is a 1TB unit ..so should be ok for a few games ..
but can I download and play off line ?
I dont do multiplayer or frag games ..
just me versus the game..
but I dont want to use my bandwidth by having to stay connected all the time..
All new to me buddy..

Just you will find that you will need to re buy your games, as the one isn't really backwards compatible.

Some 360 games you can download the one version, but you will need to pop them in, if it is backwards compatible then it will download the one version.

No probs there Chris ..
I'll still have my 360 in the system..
:D

Hmm ..
didn't know it had built in wifi ...
Will it be fast enough ..?
time will tell ...but I have a six port network switch which I can swap for the 4 port behind the TV ..if need be..

50% through the initial update which is over 1000 mb ...
which so far has taken about 10 minutes..

It does have 5ghz wifi, but personally I would hard wire it, to get the best performance.

All my devices (except Mobile phones/tablets) are hard wired.

I have a 24 port switch in the front room, and all other rooms have an 8 port switch, all running at 1ghz.

Is your modem/router 2.4 and 5 ghz or just 2.4?

Good question Chris ..
No idea ..on account I dont really use wifi..
Tomorrow I'll swap the 4 port switch for the 6..
Just downloaded the bluray player ..?
didn't realise it was an app ...just figured it was installed at factory ..
Audio is good via optical cable ..
The xbox autodetected that it was connected to a 4k TV and adjusted automatically..
re-running The Martian atm ..upscaled by the Xbox to compare with my blu ray player ..which would natively be upscaled by the TV ...
So far so good ..
I'm impressed..

..now the controller is getting an update ..
It would be useful to know which buttons are for pause etc ..
but I guess I'll get used to it..
lol

If your lucky you might actually get to use it tonight.
Just to let you know Chris you were absolutely spot on about the 500Gb Xbox One, my sister got her oldest one (primary school age) that model for Xmas and she said to me the HDD was filled up really quickly, what a bump indeed!

fwiw ..the picture quality on that blu-ray is excellent..
Cracking movie ...once I'd started 'The Martian' again...I just had to watch it through..
I guess space wise ..on the hard drive that is ..
I'll just have to be economical ..
I assume I can always dump a game along with any saves once complete..in order to regain the used space..
?

I don't really use mine anymore, as that for me was the final kick in the teeth, I would have needed to buy a Microsoft external hd.

I put £449 out when it came out on day one.

And the one took away so many games I have 70+ games and it really hurt when I had to rebuy the call of duty for the one, when I was 3/4 the way through on the 360.
