It took me all afternoon to tidy up the rats nest of cabling down the back of the old tv cabinet - and about half an hour to connect the telly up to the various av sources and get a picture.

Now need to buy a new cabinet as the bloody tv is too big for the old one! :D

Listen it does not matter what you spend on a TV be it a couple of hundred or a couple of thousand they are always out of date compared to newer models released every year, if i thought like that i would never purchase anything and would always be waiting for the next best thing which is pointless

Agreed.

You can get adequately large Smart TVs for well under 200 Sovs these days, but we still have three earlier LCD/LED jobbies with plenty of life in them, so won't be upgrading just yet.

I have two 4k tvs 2015 model and a 2016 model total cost £1000 for both, point I am trying to make is, I cant see the point in spending lots of money when it will be out of date in 12 months time, will leave it at that.

Well that is precisely the point not everyone is the same, if one person is happy with a cheap LCD/LED 4K TV then thats fine but some others want something else better features and picture quality hence they spend 1-2 grand, your quite happy with a cheap LCD i am not i wanted a premium TV with far superior picture quality so i bought myself an OLEDE6V, i had what i call a Cheap Samsung 7000 series before that but returned it due to its somewhat mediocre picture quality.

Your point is valid for you but not everyone else

It BIG! Im glad I didnt go any bigger - the 43" is quite big enough for our living room. And I need to buy a new corner cabinet for it :D

The picture is very nice - even on the skiiing that the missus likes watching on Eurosport (SD as we dont have the HD pack) The tube on the old tv must have been very tired indeed as the picture is so much brighter! :D This is on the standard eco settings - not got into the deeper recesses of the menu structure yet to play with picture quality.

Some of the HD channels via the TM5402 are spectacular - I had a look at the Turkmen channels on 52E last night after they had closed and gone to the overnight town scenes. Even OH said how nice the picture looked. Now I need to train OH to use the HD channels we have access to on Sky & not the SD ones :-rofl2

The onscreen menu could do with some work. I dont find it very intuitive at all although with a bit of cursing Ive got it to scan 13E & 19E lnb feeds.

I havent bothered networking it yet - thats probably a job for next weekend. Im not bothered with the online stuff, thats what the computer is for (& anyway on a 2.5meg bb connection you learn not to bother with streamed content much!). I just want it to play files off the nasbox.

Playing the audio through phono plugs from the Sky box via the old stereo system isnt clever - the audio & video can be quite badly out of synch. However the OH has said she will buy a decent surround sound system now Ive bought the telly so that should disappear once everything is connected using modern tech.

Unsure if you have setting help switched on ? all settings/general/setting help, I tend to use the sport mode all the time appears the best with my eyes

Out of interest what S/W do you have installed, you wont get a update until you network, all settings/general/about this tv/press ok on tv information, I am on S/W 3.3.1-2613 (dreadlocks-deua)

If your using a terrestrial antenna don't forget to set your location for epg,
