Smart Meters letter from Scottish Power...

Well we're an own door flat so just the one remote thermostat in the hall, its the analogue wheel type in regards to the timer aspect, with a "minimum" & separate "maximum" half wheel control for each respectively, 30° being the top temp of the maximum control, in real life nobody would be using the minimum wheel as the temperature range it covers would be of only use to people who wanting pipes from bursting etc. Do you have two thermostats? Upstairs and down then?
 
No only the one stat.

I replaced my old by-metallic stat with a new digital type.

I never turn the heating off, just adjust the thermostat to what I want it set to.
 
Me neither, just leave it on timer.

Your original temp is more appropriate if the system also produce your Hot Water for a Storage Tank: It's recommended DHW is at least 55c to prevent Bacteria forming.

Probably matters less, or not at all, for Combi.
 
Its a combi mate, an Alpha, quite a modern model, hot water has its own temp settings via a control dial on the left behind the flip cover as opposed to the heating water control on the right, digital display changes to what ever one your adjusting as you turn which ever control dial.
 
Lol, yeah right! Anyway I'm seeing if the missus realises that I have changed the radiator water temp setting! See if she twigs! Fun! lol
 
Update, after adjusting my radiator temps to reflect the same as Chris's three weeks ago now and submitting today I have now spent just £10 and a few pence for the whole 4 week (28 day) period. Happy days, many thanks to Chris for mentioning the controls for radiator temps, I'm delighted to have saved just over £30 over the same period.

Yes, heating the water up is always going to be the costly part, which is why I only use the single gas fire to heat the house.
If things get really bad I'll open up the chimney that goes into the kitchen and install a wood stove.

I agree they're not necessary - as long as folk are aware anything resembling a Water 'Otter is going to be greedy, that'll suffice.

in ontario canada we had to put in smart meters as we are charged 3 different prices for power during the course of the day but if yours are made by the same manufacterer they have had to change a lot as they were starting fires and latest been proven to be not accurate

A seen there was some cases of fires in North America also, I'm sure they will be "isolated" cases but frightening never the less.
 
So these Octavo idiots are still texting me despite me phoning them and stating I did not want crappy meters installed and to remove me from the automated text system that keeps sending the same crappy texts. On a related note last time I phoned the idiot tried to frighten me with the idea I could be forced to in the end up [emoji16]
 
And did you see WatchDog last night?Some horrible stories about faulty gas and electrical installations by smart meter fitters. Luckily, I kept a close eye on the young BG guy who did ours (and our gas meter is outside the house) and he did seem to know what he was doing, and the installations have been fine since (although it was then a bit of a hassle to change supplier, so went to Sainsburys - run by BG and so can read the new meters - to pay roughly the same but with a £100 gift voucher.)

Just watched it, the Scottish woman was a barrel of arguments "for" wasn't she? lol Just kept repeating the same points, far to much of a work load to be done in the time frame without standards being comprised.

And then there is the "little issue" of the interoperability of meters when trying to change suppliers - which was hardly mentioned in the programme.

Yip, just like the BBC made a 3 second mention of the fact there's been 7 million pounds worth of fraud on the oh so convenient "contactless" bank/credit cards in the last quarter!! How much will it be for the fiscal year? Anyway that's for another day.
