Yes, using the polo pipe, around 10db I think last time I checked. You can lose ESPN at certain times of the day though..

1.jpg2.jpg3.jpgI still had it on my Channelmaster 1.8m 2 years ago, and I still use the LNB with the cap on my Laminas AS2700 today
Now that it's time for the weatherproofing and I don't think much of the cling film cover, here's my solution (approx. 0.1-0.2dB loss)
A box containing TOX dowels is used, which has exactly the same dimensions as the first inner ring of the TRF.
I shortened the thread of the lid attachment so that only the collar remains for stability and wrapped a round of insulating tape around the circumference of the open side so that the can can be easily inserted tightly into the TRF.

Length for strength, girth for mirth
Nice bit of experimentation, you should maintain a lock at that level unless the periodic fluctuation in signal level over a day costs you 2dB

managed to "waterproof" it, using end of a coke bottle (diet i might add)
fits nice and snug - can mastick \ glue gun it in.

certainly easier than inverting the reflector LOL!!!

Nicely done @Manikm909 ....

When i was tinkering with plates in the past - i found that depth into the l.n.b throat and total length of plate were the critical things - the T /crossbar much less so - I was using a different brand of l.n.b to you , so dimensions may be slightly different for you? ... you currently have a good result  ...

I just had a look at the ESPN transponder with the 2.4 C.M. which has a widely offset circular l.n.b. and i,m getting 9.8 db at the moment - so that,s probably about right for me this far north.

I,v finished the repair to my damaged 1.8 C.M. so if i can find some time this week - i may set it up on the yard temporarily and see what d.b. it will pull in on the ESPN transponder up here out of interest ...

Just moving the 2.4 off satellite beam slightly i note that ESPN needs 9.2 db to lock the signal on my Dr HD F15 receiver - Lingsat lists it as needing 9.4 d.b

Cheers.

thanks @nelson_b - i couldnt get a signal at all when i tried the CBAND LNB offset to the central KU LNB - a shame, i will give it a go another time.

glad you've repaired the 1.8 - are you happy with the result...?

how do you guys cope with CBAND sats that use circular polarity and linear? do u just have to take the plate out depending on which sat you want?

yes, i spotted the "lock" criteria on Lyngsat also, so im glad im over it even with the bottle cover over the LNB. it pushes in nice and snug so happy with that now if it rains.

A polo pipe, pin pipe or a rib tickler are OK for both circular and linear polarities. They convert circular to linear and let linear through OK.
No need to insert and remove a dielectric plate if using a polo pipe, pin pipe or a rib tickler.

I got a rib tickler 'ere for sale at huge wad, it includes "the golden horn".

38.0E and 43.1W are the tests for linear polarity, both of them are challenges to get a decent number of frequencies locked from a UK location.
I might have a re-sniff at 38.0E in the next few weeks if I get the opportunity.

The 1.8 repair looks o.k. - but the proof will be in its performance - too busy with other things recently to test it out - l.o.l.

I used to just insert or remove the plate as needed till i got fed up of doing that ... so compromised for the time being - with offset circular and linear l.n.b,s .... but ideally i need a motorised l.n.b changer on the 2.4 ... its been on my list of upgrades for ages now - but other things keep taking priority ....

Yes the 1.8 that you can see in the previous post .... A perimeter brick wall partially collapsed and damaged the dish quite badly - took "many hours" to repair - l.o.l

yes, and getting same signal as me on that TP on my 1.8m - well done mate
both our 1.8m's have been repaired now. lol
get a coke bottle on the end of that LNB and try and peak signal to 10.5db and your laughing.
i notice the FS1, FS2, FS3 TP is weaker, and disappears "at night", and comes back...whereas the ESPN stays 24hours.

@nelson_b

That is a good signal level for ESPN on a 1.8m located Ooop North on a 1.8m dish, well done with the repair and with the scan result.
