I broke my Venture actuator

well, a new jack is only £179 and probably cheaper elsewhere

Is that for just one cog? Invoice says a set?

Saw that as well and it could well be for more than one cog.
I did ask them for a total price inc shipping to the UK for just the one Black drive cog - he has come back with a different part number , calls it a 'Set' , and no mention if shipping is included as requested. Hmmmm need to get back to him to clarify a bit better.

The slightly better price was from Dave @ SSS. free postage plus a small test cable & instructions - things such as these heavy duty 36" actuators could become a bit rare to get hold of as the decline for large dish installs drops so i bagged one as a spare.

I don't see a need for "36 whatsoever, "24 always more than enough and in this case 1/2 the price of "36.

I can see from 71° West through to about 60° East on my 2.2 mtr so the 36" fitted the role for my needs . I think the 36"er was just about at the end of it's travel when i checked it looking at 60°E or so once

Fired off a clarification request to them

It's a matter of polarmount design, in the early days of my SAT DX-infection I covered 58W-83E with a heavy-duty "24 Venture on a 180cm PFA without any problems. That would make 10 orbital degrees more than you.
But yeah, OK, additional lenght doesn't make any harm, I just wanted to point out the price difference, getting "24 heavy duty now is ridiculously cheaper than just some years ago.

It is also where the mounting points are fitted. I modified the IRTE polarmount to allow tracking of the arc with a 36" at full extension, imagery is somewhere on the forum. There is less stress on bearings when they are more distant from the pivot points.
A longer actuator also allows better accuracy owing to the geater pulse count.

That's exactly the same reason / scenario with my 2.2mtr install - heavy dish, motorised Cband lnb for L.R.H.V polarity with heavy Prodelin ribbed poloriser with added motorised scalar ring , added Ka & Ku lnb's added to scalar - - total weight of the lump hanging up front alone was heavy so to ease the stress i made the distances greater on the actuator fixing points - lost a bit of E-W travel but made life a bit easier for the 36"er

This but the range also depends on where in the world you are. You get a wider range the further south you go.

My 24" covers 58W to 57E on my modified Precision PM - but only just. Enough for 99% of the population ..but we are not 99% of the population :)

Or .... I wonder if it could be 3D printed with suitable material ? .. Any takers
Edit: Also just noticed in the pics that hair line fracture line coming off the centre square hub

I would try measuring cog's parameters (diameter, number of teeth etc.) and try to find a similar one - preferably metal. With your skills, you can easily make a bigger hole and add a square bit to it.

I have our man, Scopus the Great looking into it as we speak CJ

Just waiting for a price now..

Such a cog-wheel is not so simple to fabricate. Only the lathe might be not enough. What is the thickness and OD of the wheel? If I had it on my hands, I could try to replicate it in INOX.

Here's a quick sketch i did earlier

Nice sketch! Can you post a picture of the axel with square part, which foes inside the cog-wheel?
And what is thickness of the material where the yellow dot is 1700577150194a.jpeg

The IRTE 1.5 reflector is exceedingly light, it was more accuracy (since the reflector/feed remains about the best on the market).

I recall about 1050 pulses E/W the last time I ran to the lowest elevation satellites each way, with maybe 50 counts in reserve. Not the sort of system for the multifeeder since it also takes around 40 seconds to traverse horizon to horizon.
