Even upgrading to 1.5 might not be enough then...but It's a challenge I look forward to.

In Ka-band the transponders are 4. Two 580 MHz, one 480 MHz and one 240 MHz from interconnected in Ku-band with the beam Middle East....

Wonder why SES haven't chosen 19.2 for KA band in France and Germany. i.e. users could have a single dish for internet and TV.

Because there are no combined KA/KU band LNBs yet. It's a lot easier to stick another LNB to the side of the existing LNB, so 28E is better for dishes already looking at 19E. Otherwise expensive OMT splitters are needed or a second dish needs to be put up to look at the same satellite.

Thanks for info. How big would the dish need to be?

Ka only requires a relatively small dish. If you're outside the footprint a large dish won't help. Besides, bigger dishes normally lack the required precision for Ka.

So dishes for DirecTV in the USA use separate LNBs for KA and KU with each receiving different satellite positions?

Yep, they tend to use special "monoblock" type LNBs offset with the Ka and Ku bits looking at different positions in the sky. VS is our local expert on those LNBs. ;)

Yes and No ..
There are seperate Ku 'legacy' LNBs in use in the USA.
..but since the main DirecTV Ka/ Ku transponders in use are close grouped from 3 satellites around 100degrees ..with only a 2 degree seperation ..they use a triple or even a quintuple lnb designed to recieve 3 or 5 satellites in close proximity on the arc..
A bit like the old monoblocks
