Nikki Minaj ?

No that would be an irritating high pitch squeal.

Could be anything, possibly something wrong with the output stage in the amp, failing power supply, it could be anything. Does it do that regardless of what input is selected.

Might be worth asking here, i've managed to repair my Denon cd player a few times with the help of this forum.

OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

After checking the sound card, internal sound card settings and all connections at this end, I found that the speakers on my PC were muted, then after changing that setting I turned the volume up all the way, and connected several amps.

What I heard was the "Cosmic Background Radiation" hiss left over from the "Big Bang". (sorry my fault)(and not the TV show)

The only way to fix this is put the stereo system inside a box made with 45 feet (13.716 meters) of high quality lead shielding, or at the bottom of a 2000 foot deep salt mine, (salt has a great radiation attenuation property) water also has a good shielding potential for this problem, but they don't have any studio apartments left at the bottom of the Marianas trench.

At my end I just mute the speakers, or take my hearing aids out, fixes all sorts of background noise problems.

It's that hiss I want to get rid of

I had a similar problem a while back & found that by changing the RCA leads to a higher screened version the problem was eliminated.

Could be mains interference, have you got it plugged in to a socket that has other nothing other than your hi fi gear ?

Check out Russ Andrews site for some pointers.

What equipment are you using? Has it always been like this or did it suddenly appear? Have you tried isolating the problem, pulling out cables? More details, please.
If it's radio interference, try william's suggestion, replace cables or try a small capacitor across signal and ground on the end of a cable closest to the amp input..

Edit: This site Eliminating interference in stereo or audio equipment | ACMA suggests ferrite beads, you could also try clamp-on ferrites outside the shield, like vga cables had.

I have quad pre/amp connected to 2x quad mono blocks, via quad link cable.

Qed ruby anniversary evaluation speaker cable going to B&W 683 S2 speakers.

Marantz ud7007 Disk player, connected to the pre amp with Atlas Element Integra interconnects.

Pioneer N50 Network Streamer and mini dac, usb dac, again connected to the pre amp with Atlas Element Integra interconnects.

Yamaha Kx-W362 Cassette player connected to the pre amp with Fisual Havana interconnects.

Teac CD-RW 890 cd recorder connected to the pre amp with Fisual Havana interconnects.

Project Essential 2 turn table, Ortofone cart connected to the pre amp with the fixed cable.

And the noise is still there,

disconnected all devices, leaving the pre amp and mono blocks connected,

and I still get the noise!

All the kit is 13 months old, apart from the teac cd rw, and the yamaha cassette deck.

I am also using a Tacima 6 way mains Conditioner and surge protection power bar, this has its own plug in the wall socket.

I have also shut off my mains plug adapters for Internet around the house.

Shut off all fans, sat kit, cctv units, and I still have that noise!

Is the system grounded? Or all components chassis bonded with say a #12 copper to an Earth ground? This may eliminate the hiss.

And I just checked, my X wife is not missing so it can't be her.

Also check your spec's on the SNR on all attached components, this is the noise factor in all stereo systems.

One other test would to go to a very quiet place and plug one ear then the other, see if the noise stays put or goes away, if the hiss stays put or changes then don't turn your system up so loud, or stop wearing head phones with the volume up all the way.

I killed my ears long ago working as a sound engineer at those 70's rock concerts, way too close to those 12,000 watt speaker setups. Permanent hiss and a 3.164 KHz ringing all the time.
