Regarding the too dark image; I can adjust the HDMI video settings in my Pioneer plasma. Default it's on "auto". I have manually set it to "0-255" and the image is good now. Not too dark anymore. Maybe the same can be done in other tv's. EDIT: hmm, setting to "0-255" works only well for SD...
