thanks for the extra pointers, I'll be having another stab at this soon. I have been keeping one eye on eBay to see if any bigger dishes are coming up in my area as I thought this would make things easier, but it seems not so I will test again with my sly mini dish :-)

hi , yea I got one exactly like in your picture. It worked but I had two problems 1) I didn't know whether it was 28.2E which I was near, or another satellite, and also 2) even when there was good signal picked up by the meter, my sly plus hd box was not showing any change to "locked" etc...

Hi all, thought I'd bump this as I'm no further on in my tests.........would a larger dish make "more certain" that I am getting a signal from the satellite?

you manage to get 28.2 reception through those trees in your 3rd pic?!?!?! Check out this I couldn't get a fix on! What receiver did you use to check you had signal?

thanks, thats a good tip about calibrating the meter I just wanted to ensure theres nothing obvious I was missing to make the network ID appear like a setting, or like you say a decent pause but I have tried this :(

Hi again all. Am I right in thiking that if I hit 28.2 then my sly plus hd box will immediately read after "locked OK" something other than "Null" for the "network ID" and "transport stream" values? Or will I need to change some settings on the receiver e.g. 3/4 7/8 etc? thanks!

I have a card in the box, it's ready to receive FTA channels. I did have a think about the wrong sat. I think I certainly got 2 seperate feedback which did seem close together, it could have been 23.5....but I thought surely it would have at least some indication of a signal on the receiver.

hi all, just thought i'd post again to say that I took your advice and got a meter, I saw it as a last chance saloon. Unfortunately my test failed. I just don't get any signal at all show up on either my Sly+ box or the Sly HD box I have despite the meter buzzing and showing a signal.
