    Astra 2E: Western Europe Reports

I'm just east of Munich city (Trudering). With a generic 1m dish and single LNB, we barely get Ch5/BBC1 through the day. Indicated SNR peaks at 3,0..4,0dB. Disappears like a fart in a fan factory during the evening. Great to hear Steve Steve's positive report from a similar location. Does anyone...

    Astra 2F: Western Europe Discussion

Before and after the launch of 2F, I plotted the (albeit) basic quantities of Signal Strength and Signal Quality reported by my Technisat HDFS. Prior to 2F migration, I got all channels with at least 8dB quality 24/7, except during thunderstorms. Since migration, I've collected a bunch of...

Astra 2F: Central & East Europe Discussion

SkyNews @ Freesat 202 SS 78 SQ 8.0dB (this is good enough, I'm sure, for 24/7) cf. the benchmark Channel 5 SS 44 (low, but not unusually so) SQ 0.0dB ["Noise floor" has SS 41... need SS 52 or more to get lock for SD] [Usually only get Ch5 from 0900-1700h] Munich. Cheap 1m. Cheap IceCrypt LNB...

    Astra 2F: Western Europe Discussion

Just 2,5 hours later, the CNR ratios have dropped by ~1,5dB... still much better than before today, but not the dizzy heights of earlier The drop in CNR seems to be accompanied by SS drops of 2%-pts, from ~55% to 53%. [A scatter plot of historic CNR v SS values for my system, shows that ~50%...

    Astra 2F: Western Europe Discussion

I returned to Munich during the afternoon of 31-Dec. No changes to my setup. Unusually, Ch5 worked until well after sunset. Weather conditions fair (high cloud, light winds, just above 0C ambient) This lunchtime (01-Jan), the 2F transponders (Ch5, ITV HD and CH4 HD are the ones I checked) were...

    Astra 2F: Western Europe Discussion

Despite similar set-up to "TonyWhalley" up the road, I'm only getting the Ch5 transponder in Munich City - and then during daylight hours. Facts... Ch5: At C/N of 1.9dB, picture freezes and lock is lost. C/N otherwise has varied from 2.5dB up to 4.0dB during the day and made for good watching...
