i am using mandriva linux 2007 , it is good , first try some live cd like mephis. later if you lke the linux then you can go for it, there are many verions avilable, you can go for ubantu or fedoracore linux or mandriva , they are even easy to install all the best

are lnb's egisterd to a a particular satellite? how many types of lnb's are avialble ? post some infromation about this!
