I live in Madrid, two or three km east of the Retiro, and I agree with others who have recommended a 1.2m dish with a good LNB. I have a 1.25 Famaval dish with an Opticum quad LNB and have had perfect 24/7 reception of all 2F and 2E channels for over a year now, and 2G since it came into...
What about the difference between aluminium and steel? Is it just a question of weight (rust isn't a big worry in Madrid). The steel version is even cheaper, with 42.4 db gain.
Thanks for the info, very helpful. According to the specs, the gain on the Famaval 125 is 42.4. I sent a link to the Famaval spec sheet to the online supplier I mentioned and they confirmed that it's the same dish they are selling for 97 euros (aluminium version), but from what you say (Famaval...
In the end I've decided to install the dish myself (I went up on the roof and found it wasn't as scary as I thought). Now I need to decide on a dish. I'm considering a Tecatel 135 (120x135), which is around 130 euros (including VAT) but I'd be interested to know more about the Famaval dishes...
Thanks! Could you PM me the contact details? In one of your reports just after 2E came into service you said your 1.2m motorized dish was losing channels in bad weather. How has reception been for 2E on that dish over the last few weeks? Or have you not tested it again since the changeover...
I'll probably end up calling in a professional but I want to make sure I can't do it myself first, because if I need to go up a dish size and pay an installer it's going to be a lot more than I was budgeting for.
It seems that the recommended size for Madrid is 150cm or more but I'm trying to balance reasonable reception against a low budget and keeping my neighbours happy. For the moment, I have permission from the neighbours to put up a 110x120 dish but I might be able to get away with 120x135. My aim...
Hahaha! Yes, I saw those photos. I might even get in touch with "elMaestro" to see what he would charge for putting the dish up for me.
@Tururu: if you read this maybe you could give me contact details for your friend "elMaestro"

Yes, good point. I think the tube does rotate in the clamps and also the clamps will fix to two different uprights on the existing mast, so that would allow for vertical adjustments to angle as well, so I should be able to get it upright. I'll try contacting the manufacturer anyway to see if...
No, I won't be able to mount the upright part of the support arm looking directly at the satellite, so yes, I might end up with the problem you describe. If I could get hold of the 50mm version of the support (also 2mm thick), do you think that would be OK, or might I have the same problem...
Thanks woborny. There is a 50mm version of that bracket but unfortunately I can't find anywhere that sells it.
Do you think 40mm is too small because it might be too small for the mounting on the dish or because it might not be strong enough to hold that size dish? The dish weighs 11.5kg. If...
